It felt like even before I had been given the opportunity to open the trunk, the landlord was already climbing the stairs carrying both of our suitcases.
Here's feeling welcome for you.

Staying in 'Idas Salong', as every room has been named after some event in the family's history, made us feel really at home.
But then again, the family didn't get stuck in history, as they were only too eager to make our stay in the present worth every minute of it.

Hjelle isn't marked in travel guides - or at least not ours- our travel agent directed us to it and we were delighted. A real family run hotel, with the family on board, and visable practically all the time. Delightful quiet settings, as others have described. We had a lovely room overlooking the lake in the main hotel. the simplicity of the room reflects the Scandinavian style and we loved it. Plenty of plugs, good shower, mirrors, everything we need.

the only improvement we could suggest, is that although the chefs are wonderful at desserts and not bad at all at starters, the main courses could be worked on a bit. But I would, without hestitation recommend this hotel to everyone.

This family hotel is just a great place to stay if you wanna experience some delightful service and assistance for everything you need.
The dinner was made by Lorentz & Emma and we found it simple but really tasty and home-made.
The breakfast was gorgeous with so many products and a good quantity for each item that will prepare you for a long driving journey!
Our room was perfect for our need with a nice view on the lake.
It is a hidden gem away from crowded and touristic hotel so it worth the trip to go there if you are looking for an authentic hotel experience.

Thanks you again Mr & Mrs Hjelle.

Kind Regards from France.

We stayed as a family at Hotel Hjelle annex in June of 2014. The rooms were a bit spartan, and a tad expensive, but with such a great view and location it was absolutely beautiful. The hotel staff was excellent and helpful in all regards. They are truly customer driven. Breakfasts were excellent. My only complaint would be the cost of dinner. We ate in the restaurant for a dinner of pot roast one night for the tune of like $52(U.S) apiece. We were told this was a traditional Norwegian dish. That's nice but traditionally my American relatives ate hot dogs and pork and beans, but not for$52. I love Norway, but it's ridiculously expensive.
On a side note, it would be nice to see Expedia (trip advisor) to start offering something in return for people who post a certain number of reviews. With over 2300 employees and $940m in revenue, it would be nice to see trip advisor give something back to the people that make trip advisor work so well, the trip advisor community. Travel coupons, hats, discounts, etc.,… a little something?
