Have just spent a night at the Mill House Hotel in Bedford. The hotel itself is tucked away just off a main road, having driven past it twice we eventually found the entrance (something which another 4 guests also did...)
The staff were welcoming on arrival but perhaps a little "snooty" particularly when we didn't want anything from either the set or a la carte menu. A trip to the local pub (The Fordham Arms, friendly staff nice beer) sorted that out.
My room (number 11) was a short walk outside and round the corner of the building, it was very clean and almost unbearably warm, which was nice due to the frost outside. So no complaints about the room, foodwise, the breakfast was nice with brutally efficient service and pleasant view out over the river.
Overall I would stay here again, but would find somewhere else to eat if you are vegetarian or put off by slightly pretentious menus.
