We stayed in this all inclusive for two weeks using Sunwing for trip arrangements. I'll start by saying the hotel is needing some updating. The room we had was nice; clean, a/c worked, maid service was great.

The food was terrible; we ate mystery meat many nights. The same food was served regularly. What we had one night would be served in a different dish for lunch the next day and then a third time for some items. The wine at dinner was very poor quality. The desserts and salads were lacking in selection and imagination. They frequently ran out of coffee in the morning or coffee cups (ones not much good without the other!)I must say though George the head waiter was always there to make sure you were getting service and the staff serving behind the buffet were very friendly and tried to please.

The pool was disgusting and had some algee growth going on. The sewer smell that accosted us as we left the hotel lobby to go to the beach was always present. And the chemical warfare that was used against the insects nearly did us in every evening right around sundown. They assured us it was a "safe" chemical.

The drinks were very limited and we had to drink out of 5 oz plastic glasses. This amounted to half a beer at a time. We could get 2 plastic glasses if we asked but no more than that so this kept a constant stream of people at the bar causing line ups. Most of the time there was only one person working at the outside bar and just two inside. They actually ran out of beer at the outside bar early one afternoon and another day closed the bar with no explanation. There were only two bars in the entire resort so guests had to all the was in to the hotel to get drinks. The staff that worked there was very friendly and accomodating given the conditions they were working under.

When I complained to the front desk manager about an issue he did not respond, he just stared at me as if he was deaf. He was very rude.

The island itself is very beautiful, we dove (scuba) at a little dive shop called Anomone just down the beach. The dive staff and owner was amazing. We dove about twenty times between my husband and I and never went to the same place twice. Maria is the owner and she was very helpful and friendly.
The snorkelling was fabulous right off the beach from the hotel. Water clean, sand soft and clean.
Generally speaking the staff was dedicated, friendly, and helpful. They tried to make the most for the vacationers. The hotel management and frugal conditions imposed on us from food to drinks to very poor nightly entertainment was very disapointing considering it was an all inclusive and we paid a fair amount for this vacation.

First, the hôtel in it's self,is very nice and very well maintained. The staff is wonderfull, helpfull and they work hard. The beach is also wonderfull, and always very clean
.Service at the reception and to settle little inconveniences, excellentThe food is excellent everything was verry good.
.Now here are the negative points: no service at all at the only buffet. There are no ''a la carte', restaurants at this hotel. We where told by personnel, that they would like to serve but the new ownwer of the hotel is not in favor of this.
No one serving wine a supper not even coffee.Always have to get up to get some.
In the morning, always a line up to get some eggs made, you get discouraged and never mind. One toaster that works only on one side...a nother line up.Always missing cups, wine glasses, coffee.Oh also,no wine available at lunch time...You got to buy your winw at lunch.

At the beach,no beach grill. There is a little buffet ,that is almost always empty,so all meals you must go back to the main buffet...

To the owners:you better get your act togheter cause your reputation is on line here.Your staf is so wonderfull,be a little more generous to your clients and staff cause we are victims of your carelessnes.
Even with theese issues,we enjoyed our stay at HM.It would n't take much to make HM a perfect hotel.

Room Tip: Second floor ,end section.

We are not hard to please, the beach was out of this world!! never seen a nicer one anywhere! The hotel however needs help. The sewage smells throughout the lobby were absolutely disgusting. We were in Villa 2, unfortunately there is no covered outside seating area for the villas so no balcony or patio, however these were the newer rooms at the resort.
We ate out a lot as the buffet was extremely dull mostly pork every night. Went to Vintage Pearl, Bite on the Beach, Fosters. Tried Beachers but did not food even after waiting over an hour. We did not have any issues getting full bottle of beer from the bars they did run out of glasses regularly but would fill the buba kegs. During our stay there were lots of travellers with the tummy troubles keeping them in bed for 2 days at a time. I would return to Roatan but never Henry Morgan again.

We just got back from Henry Morgan Feb. 21 2012. from Feb.06 - Feb.20 2012
Stayed at this place last year. We have heard Sun Wing Vacations is pulling out of this resort
The owners of this resort are building a resort on the other side of the island and do not want to put any money to this place they want to close it down. We have been and seen the Media Luna Resort and would not stay there hardly any beach and cost for every thing plus far from anything. Henry Morgan this place had a complete turn around in 1 year from Super Great to Bad. The staff at this resort work hard for what they have to work with because they are short handed plus short staffed . The food was crap from the best to the worst and I am not a fuszie eater. Could not eat there the last couple of days eating reheated crap from lunch and day before. The place is kept clean. Washrooms at beach and main building where needed repairs and where never repaired. The entertainment was very poor this year Music was so loud we had to yell at the beach sitting on beach and in the main building and people where leaving the resort and going somewhere quieter.

The people from Itlay where not even eating and going to other places cause the food was crap. Best of all was the scuba diving from on sight TGI Divers.
Too the people first time may not like comments. Just think of a full resort and nobody where eating there. Lunch and dinner and beach was empty

Room Tip: don"t stay here

I stayed at the Henry Morgan from January 9-23, in a group of 8. We had the same issues that others have spoken about. As far as the good, the staff are very helpful, friendly, and hard working. The rooms are great, but that's a matter of personal preference. They don't have marble floors and gold fixtures. They have wooden floors, very comfortable beds (ours was a king-sized), and balconies with two hammocks. The rooms are clean, and there was plenty of hot water. Our air conditioning worked fine, others had some issues with it.

The beach is spectacular, and Santos, in charge of the chairs and raking the beach, works non-stop. There is plenty to do on the beach, from lazing around to renting kayaks and snorkeling. We used bug spray every day, so the sand fleas weren't a huge problem.

On the not so good side was the food. Meh would best describe it for the most part. Breakfast was ok. Scrambled eggs were available every day, as were refried beans and freshly made tortillas. There was no pico de gallo to be found at breakfast and seldom at other meals. There is an omelet station as well, and some fruit and pastries available. The most frequent breakfast meat is wieners. Some days we even had wieners three ways (cut sideways, cut lengthwise, and football shaped). That still didn't convince me that wieners are a breakfast food.

The main buffet at lunchtime was unbearably hot, so we didn't eat there much. The few times we did eat there it was some kind of mystery fish, and some cold cuts and salads which was ok but not great. The beach buffet is tortilla chips, some pizza-like substance, and once, sliders, but we were only allowed one slider per person. They had cheese, lettuce and tomato sliders a couple of times but mostly it was the pizza-like substance, tortilla chips, and a pasta that they ran out of quite quickly.

There is 5 hours between the time that the lunch buffet closes and the dinner buffet opens (2 PM to 7 PM). We could live with that as adults, but that would be very difficult for people with children.

Dinner was largely bleh. Edible in most cases, but not spectacular, although you would run across a gem once in a while, and I loved the flan that was available as dessert every day. There was no labelling of the food, so we had no idea what we were eating most of the time. The conversations would go like this: "this is really good!" "What's that?" "This chicken, fish or pork thing in the sauce - it's up there to the left of the tortilla lady". Fortunately there were bones in it often enough that you could figure out what you were eating by reconstructing the skeleton.

I am a beer drinker for the most part, so I didn't mind the lack of selection of drinks, but it certainly did seem skimpy, and you could not get wine except at dinner, unless you paid for it. That was one of the things that got me - the wine is obviously available at the hotel, we have paid for an all inclusive, and they charged for it any other time except for 7-9 PM in the buffet. It seemed like nickel and diming to me. The drink service rules were ridiculous. They have plastic six oz cups that hold half a beer. You can order two at a time. We all brought enviro-mugs with us, but the staff were not allowed to pour the beer into them. They had to pour it into two plastic cups, then we would pour the two cups into our mugs and the two plastic cups were thrown away. Once in a while if there wasn't a line, we could convince them to pour one cup, wait, then refill it, so that we were only throwing one plastic cup away, but management would not let them pour it directly into our mugs, or even hand us the bottle to do that ourselves.

On the few occasions I ordered a mixed drink, it was ridiculously strong because of the size of the cups - it would come out about half and half - so I'd have to order another cup of mix and try and make it into a decent drink by tossing the liquid back and forth between cups. It made for a good floor show, but not a good cocktail. Anything that is not on their limited list of drinks costs $6.00 USD, and we're not talking high end premium liquor here.

That said, the coffee was excellent. The cappucino bar in the lobby opens at 9:00 AM and the coffee in the restaurant is strong and very dark.

We arranged many of our activities by ourselves. We had an amazing day with Radical Catamaran Adventures that we arranged by email before we left Canada. We went for a day trip with a fellow I met on the beach named Bill Connor (calls himself the singing captain and has the boat Mr. Kirk). The day trip was fun, but don't trust Mr. Connor with any extra money. We gave him some money before the trip to get some extra beer and after the trip to get a herbs and roots mix called guiffiti. He didn't get the beer and never returned with the guiffiti.

One of the reasons we arranged things ourselves was that the Sunwing reps, Patrick and Lucy, were seldom there and useless when they were there. We arranged a zip lining trip through Patrick and he didn't even know which one he was sending us on. He told us it was South Shore and it was Caribe Sky (didn't matter to us, it turned out great anyway). Fabrizzio, the Italian tour rep is very helpful, and Sonia, the hotel rep is also very helpful.

I seem to have gone into a lot more detail on the negatives, but over all I enjoyed the Henry Morgan and, providing the price was reasonable, I would stay there again. I didn't mind going out for dinner more often because we got a decent price on the two week stay.

I will make my comments short. The beach is wonderful we couldn't have asked for better. Resort is really showing its age. The food is the big complaint I have. We were offered pretty much the same thing every day. We had roast pork 3 days in a row and everything was a mystery as to what we were eating. If they had labelled the dishes it would have been nice. The food was luke warm at best. They were always running out of glasses/cups & saucers. MANY people we talked to got sick my husband included - it lasted a week and was very nasty. Sunwing Reps at resort tried to tell us we brought the flu with us. NO WAY!! We could not face the food midway through our holiday and ended up eating out the rest of our vacation. We weren't the only ones. Staff are very friendly- no complaints. They fogged for mosquitos about 4:00 in the afternoon - it was awful - smoke all through the lobby, bar etc. Everyone breathing this in. There was also a nasty sewer smell near our room which wasn't nice at all. Would I go back to this resort - no way!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the 2nd floor as the noise from the wooden boardwalk can get quite noisy when peopl...

Darice W. has said most of the same things I would. On the positive side: our room was clean, towel art good, water hot, plumbing working. Staff were friendly;George, who is in charge of the dining room, was very friendly and helpful. The beach was beautiful and constantly groomed. Unlike some, I enjoyed the international atmosphere and chance to interact with people from other countries. Our dive-master was friendly, helpful, and competent, if somewhat fast-paced for our group. We did have the same one throughout our boat changes. Most of the captains were quite helpful.
On the negative: Several of our group got nauseated, one throwing up all night. One did not feel like eating again for three days, and many had what in Mexico is called "Montezuma's revenge." It could have been food poisoning, contamination from the tap water, exposure to the poison fog they sprayed every evening which was hard to avoid, or a combination.
We had breathed some questionable air a few times (we were told it was OK, and have had no previous experience with bad air,so we used it.) We found out a few days later that one special dive trip had had to be cancelled because of so many tanks of contaminated air, both regular and Nitrox. The next trip after finding this out, we questioned our strange-smelling air and our dive-master consulted the captain. They both smelled it and had strange expressions on their faces. The captain told us it was not "too bad." I was surprised by this assertion, as if maybe we should go ahead and use it. Any "bad" was too much for us (we were already not well) I do not know how common a problem bad air is, but in numerous dive trips, including elsewhere on Roatan, it had never happened to us. We did request and receive tanks of regular air which had no funny smell.
The dining room is huge, and reminded me of a school cafeteria. The complaints about long lines, repetitiveness of the food, blandness, sometimes indistinguishability of whether something was chicken or fish, we found to be true. The food was usually "edible" but seldom delicious. The one dessert I tried, I had one bite of. The only memorably good dishes were roast pork one night and home-made potato chips another, although the home-made flour tortillas at breakfast were very good, and the omelettes, bravely prepared by one smiling woman, were fine. Our last few dinners and lunches were eaten out.
Like several others, our group had originally been booked for Media Luna, a new and probably much nicer resort than Henry Morgan. We were told, however, that the booking agent had stolen our deposit and that the company had graciously given us the "same deal" at its Henry Morgan resort. The one good thing about this was having good nearby restaurants in both directions down the beach.
Our room was a long way from the main buildings, the beach, and dive center. We had no help with the luggage, although if we had wanted to wait, they would have rounded up some help.
Of particular interest to divers: There was not enough time to return to our room between morning dives. We had to change dive boats many times, sometimes in the same day. This was very inconvenient, especially since we had to carry everything except weights on and off the boat at the end of the day or when changing. Weights did not always transfer. The yellow boat, one of the three used, had several floor levels which could trip and was small and crowded. There was no dock, so exit from the boat was down a ladder, through shallow water and across the beach. The gearing up area and dive shop were past the beach and its bar and on the far side of a large algae- infested swimming pool. (To be fair, they were working on it and improved it greatly during our stay.) We had to watch Nitrox being analyzed on the boat on our way to a dive site with no extra Nitrox aboard or opportunity to do it ahead of time in case the PSI was low or the Nitrox bad.
Many of the resort's problems may stem from its age and very large spread-out layout. Most resorts this size would have more than one restaurant; better-organization with well-separated salad, fruit, dessert and drink stations would help this one. Also, it is not primarily a dive resort, and if one's main purpose in going to Roatan is diving, I would not recommend it.
