A classic town church, not much to see or do, pretty minimalistic and straight forward. Shops outside which are a little more interesting.

As many tourist groups, we did stop at Maca to stretch out legs, to enjoy local version of pisco sour, to look at the pretty St. Anna church, to browse at the local market. The church is OK, but there are more things around - colourful statues dedicated to the history of the country, some quite difficult to interpret. And a very expressive monument dedicated to the Incan wars with the Spanish Conquistadors.
The church is grand , full of gold leaf and some strange looking icons. However go stretch your legs down in the square and look at the colourful statues. Why is this young lady carrying a cross between a mexican wrestler and a soldier - why has another a teddybear on her back - it is not Paddington - we need to know.
On our way back to Arequipa from visiting the Condors we made a stop for some colourful pics and maybe some souvenirs. At this time there was not so many locals around the plaza and church. The church was rising up again after the last earthquake - it's some years ago.
A tiny town where tour groups stop either before or after visiting Colca Canyon. The church is nice enough but there are also plenty of ladies with their baby alpacas touting for photos. Obviously stalls selling souvenirs, goes without saying. If you weren't on a tour you probably wouldn't stop but this is how small towns now have to survive so nice to stretch your legs and hand over some money.
Like all other tours of the Colca Valley, our coach stopped here briefly to enable us to quickly look around. Maca is a pretty little village with colourful locals, traditionally dressed selling typical Peruvian arts and crafts. At the center of the town is the lovely Iglesia Santa Ana, restored white church. The inside is covered in gold, it cant be real as there is too much. Great place for colourful photo's and also to see an active volcano from afar.
