When it comes to Turkish cuisine one can explore from an abundance of recipees.
This restaurant is a typical family restaurant mostly known in Turkey as Locanda where dishes follow a traditoonal authentic tecipee.
Choices unfold with dips, entrees, bourek(filo pastry based pies)and grilled or bbq classics.
I tried Yoghurtlu whoch is mutton kebab dtessed in a paprika/tomato yoghurt sauce sitting on crusty turkish bread.
The portion was generous to be shared among 3 diners if you are in a group.
The decor atmosphere is not something to rave on.
Staff quite reserved but attentive.
It is cultural in Turkey that the customer is respected and somehow you may feel distant.
They have an amazing selection of pastry sweets available also takeaway from $5 $6 $7 a punnet but available per kilo.

A fairly utilitarian restaurant with plenty of tables and a good choice of Turkish meals. Waiting staff were very friendly and helpful, and the menus were well written for Turkish food virgins! We enjoyed two different gozleme (Turkish flat bread with savoury fillings), a mixed salad and a BBQ platter of mixed meats. At the till, we bought a box of Turkish pastries and Turkish delight to take home. Reasonable cost for the quality provided.

A friend recommended Alasya as i love turkish food. We were having a chilled out night so my sister rang through an order. Unfortunately when i picked the order up there was a mix up and we got another order instead. But the food is divine, and looming forward to ordering my original dishes next time i visit melbourne!

I count myself as being something of a maven when it comes to Turkish food, having visited Turkey twice and .enjoyed many a Turkish meal on Sydney Road. Sydney Road is no longer the heartland of Turkish culture in Australia and many restaurants have moved out, but not Alasya. I hadn't dined there for a while,, so I dropped in there for lunch. I had a sucuklu pide, a sort of pancake with .a filling of spicy Turkish sausage, egg, capsicum and tomatoes, expertly cooked so the egg was still partially soft. Alasya has been in Sydney Road since 1978, making it almost prehistoric in the highly competitive Melbourne restaurant business. By the way, the restaurant is somewhat controversial the Turkish community, as the founders are from Cyprus. Indeed "Alasya" is the ancient Turkish name for Cyprus. However, this island in the eastern Mediterranean has many Turks and the food they prepare is Turkish.

We took the kids (9 & 7) to the first Turkish restaurant, and all in all it was a success. They tried a few things with varying degrees of success. The food was nice and staff pleasant, and it was nice meal, although I think we ordered too much!!!
