Small and quiet hotel walking distance from the cloud forest and to Curi cancha reserve. Helpful staff and good food. Easy to get a taxi into town centre. Much cooler here than in other Costa Rica destinations so we didn’t really use outside areas.

We had a great time here - 10 minute walk from reserve and a lovely little cheap cafe just outside the reserve with humming birds everywhere. Staff very helpful in advising and booking trips and activities. All people working there friendly and happy. Nice room with good view as well. It’s a 5 colon trip into the town by taxi.

I guess one of this hotel's strengths can also be viewed as weakness. Its close to the Cloud Forest but far from town. we walked to forest on our first day and had a beer in the Hummingbird cafe (well worth a visit) We also had a guided tour of the park the following day and finally got to see a Resplendent Quetzal. After hours trekking he was waiting for in the car park! There are buses to the local town which is a long hour walk back uphill. Do stop off at the coffee shop half-way. There's a workers cooperative , a store and they sell a wide range of excellent coffee (and offer tours). We stayed in an Superior room up the hill (lots of steps) from the main buildings with grand views from our picture windows. A enormous bed, good walk in showers and a coffee machine. Breakfasts were in a separate building, There wasn't a great variety or choice just a simple buffet and no chice of eggs which were all pre-cooked and served in hot plates.. Our two evening meals were good value and the service was excellent. Not much to do after dinner so if we return will probably choose somewhere closer to center of town.

We spent two nights here as part of our tour of Costa Rica. We were initially given a room within the lodge itself which was rather dark and dingy. We soon discovered that there were nicer looking rooms in a separate block a short walk further up the hill. We asked about them and after initially being told that we would have to pay for an upgrade, they gave us the upgrade for nothing which was a really nice gesture. The hotel was very clean and the bed was comfortable enough.

We had dinner here once which was nice although a fairly limited choice. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, they had no butter available only margarine.

This hotel is quite a distance from the town and while we were there it was very windy and wet. If we were to go back I think I would prefer to stay in the town. As for Monteverde itself, it was a long detour to get here on very bumpy roads, not sure that it was worth it, certainly not in July. We had a tour in the national park but it was so wet that we saw very little wildlife.

The location is scenic with views of the clouds and , at times, the forest. The room was large but lacked cross ventilation. A ceiling fan would have helped circulate the air in the humid room. Anything that was dry becomes damp and nothing wet ever dries. We had dinner one night in the restaurant. The meal was good but the menu selection is limited. The free breakfast was very good. The staff was competent but service seemed too formal an impersonal. The atmosphere lacked the friendliness we experienced with staff and fellow guests that we encountered elsewhere on our trip in Costa Rica. There was a total lack of hot water in our room during our 2 night stay. Overall, it is an OK place but I would probably look somewhere else if I were to return. We stayed at 4 hotels on our 10 night trip to Costa Rica and this is the only one that disappointed us.
