We just had a wonderful end of summer vacation at Samba Vallarta! It was so nice to vacation with local Mexicans from nearby cities. We were the only Americans, plus a Canadian couple. My kids made friends with some boys that were vacationing with their extended family. They were speaking quite a lot of Spanish by the end of the week.
The hotel is very family friendly, yet wasn't overcrowded with children running everywhere. The swimming pool is awesome! My kids played on the pirate ship for hours, even my 13-year-old. The beach is connected directly to the resort so we went back and forth between the pool and the beach all day. One night a sea turtle spontaneously appeared on the beach. She spent 45 minutes laying her eggs, then turned around and made her way back to the ocean. It was a truly magical scene to witness.
We enjoyed eating 3 buffet meals per day. There was a great variety of foods to choose from. Each night a meal from a different culture was served, with an offering of local foods every day. My kids especially liked the desserts as they had different little cakes to choose from for lunch and dinner. My mother and I enjoyed all the cocktails and wine. The nightly entertainment was really worthwhile, especially the Mexican cultural dancing. My kids enjoyed the magic night as well.
The hotel has free Wi-fi. There weren't any long waits and there were lots of available lounge chairs. The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable.
The staff does a great job of getting people to join in the activities. I took the water aerobics class and my kids played water polo. William and Hervey are super fun and enthusiastic. All of the staff seemed genuinely happy and it is obvious that they enjoy their jobs. They are very hospitable and attentive.
I was worried that the hotel would make us pay for our misplaced towel because they gave us a towel card and we were responsible for all of the towels that they lent us. At most resorts it is easy to pick up someone else's towel by accident or misplace your own towel and we were a towel short on our last day. The hotel didn't charge us, however.
My only criticism is that the hotel has 3 restaurants and we were only able to eat at the buffet restaurant because we had to make reservations at the Italian and Mexican restaurant. Children can't eat at the Italian restaurant but I think that they can eat at the Mexican restaurant, unfortunately, they always seemed full when we tried to make a reservation.
We are definitely going back next year. We had a truly fabulous stay!
