The main area of concern for safety in Cabo San Lucas is in regards to beach safety. Swimming, fishing, kayaking, diving, snorkeling, boating, and whale watching are all happening at the same time in a relatively small beach area, as well as the surrounding open water area in Cabo San Lucas. Medano is the main beach which should be used for swimming because the areas around this beach are roped off in order to protect swimmers from watercraft. This creates an extremely dangerous situation, especially for kayakers attempting to cross open water. Note also that many tour guides do not follow basic safety practices, such as using a spotter AND driver in their banana boat operations - this not only can cause injury and death to those involved in the operations, but represents an EXTREME hazard to paddle boarders, kayakers and anyone else attempting to navigate open water.
