Penzance's culinary scene is much improved in the last 10 years, experiencing the culinary revolution that has spread from London across the country. Two real gems:
The Bay - Beautiful room with stunning views over Mounts Bay. Great focus on local ingredients.
The Abbey Restaurant - Another fantastic local huddled into the harbor. Again a strong advocate of local ingredients.
Of course during the day there is nothing better than eating a Cornish Pasty as you stroll the streets. The locals go to:
Lavenders Deli on Alverton Street
Also if you go to neighboring Newlyn you must try the unbeatable Jelbert's ice cream. A very local, highly prized and secret recipe, their tub with clotted cream on top is the best ice cream in the world.
Also try the Bakehouse opposite Egytian House Chapel Street, same style as Abbey/Bay and similar prices, but try the early eater menu for good food at less scary prices.
