Marrakech is very charming and really worth visiting, as are excursions to the beautiful surrounding areas of Marrakech. The Berber Valleys of the High Atlas Mountains are only about a one hour drive from the city.  One example is the town of Amizmiz, where you can see the famous Berber weekly market on Tuesdays or tour local villages nearby. Essaouira is a one-day trip (it’s a very charming city on the Atlantic coast about two hours drive). A trip to Ouarzazate and the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah in the south of Morocco can also be very interesting even if it is a lonnnnnng ride. If you are visiting Marrakech for 4 or more days, then you should really think about having a day trip. The concierge at your hotel can normally organise such trips for you if you let them know one or two days in advance.  Note that most of the drivers in Morocco speak very little English; most of them speak French and Arabic. Another excursion you could take its the ones to all the waterfalls for example the Ourika Valleys, very beautiful and tranquil, you will again be with the surroundings of Berber families.
