With no rail or subway services in Oman, the best choices for travel to Muscat (for tourists) are slimmed down to air travel and cruise ships. Fortunately, several international airlines service Oman, including KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, American Airlines, Lufthansa, and British Airways, arriving at Oman's Seeb International Airport.
Seeb International Airport is about 24 miles from Muscat, and has one terminal, so both domestic and international flights use the same area for check-ins and departures. Round-the-clock banking and money exchange, as well as shops, a post office, a restaurant, and other amenities make practical matters simpler.
Taxis, car rental, and buses service the airport, though the taxis are expensive and the bus services can be slow. If cost and/or timeliness are a concern, it may be best to rent a car. Avis, Hertz, and National are three of several car rental (or "car hire" ) services available at the airport. If you're planning to stay at a major hotel, you will likely be provided with a shuttle service to and from the airport.
Within the country itself, Oman Air provide service between the Salalah and Seeb airports every 90 minutes, as well as scheduled flights to other destinations.
Cruises are another option when traveling to Muscat. For cruise information, check out Vacations To Go.
