In Hong Kong, when it rains, it pours! This can really throw off your travel plans for the day, particularly in the rainy season. Luckily there are many activites you can plan for these times. This includes shopping, going to the cinema or even ice skating rinks at different shopping malls spread out around Hong Kong.
Additionally, Hong Kong has some nice musuems that can fit perfectly into your travel plans on those rainy days. Probably the best of this lot is the Hong Kong Musuem of History in Kowloon. Other musuem options include the Hong Kong Museum of Science (probably the best option for those with children), Musuem of Art, Hong Kong Space Musuem and the Heritage Musuem (Shatin).
If you've children that are a bit restless during the rainy days, ice skating can be a fun activity. Several shopping malls have ice rinks, including Festival Walk (Kowloon Tong), Megabox (Kowloon Bay) and Elements Mall (Tsim Sha Tsui - Austin MTR). Cinemas are scattered throughout the city showing local Cantonese films as well as current Hollywood blockbusters. Or why not visit one of Hong Kong interactive indoor playgrounds like Jumping Gym USA which has over 40 branches across the city. In recent years, many of the shopping malls have added interactive playground areas for children. These include Fun Zone (Kennedy Town - HK Island), Bumble Tots (Ma On Shan, N.T.) and Game Zone at the Megbox Mall (Kowloon Bay).
The good news is that the rain usually clears the sky of air pollution so when the sun finally comes back out, you will probably be afforded wonderful views of Hong Kong, seeing this island country at its best. So, head to the Harbour or even to the Peak if you notice the skies opening and clearing up after your rainy day(s).
