Completed in 1980 it is one of the most modern airports in Central America and is considered be one of the safest in the region. It is located about 30 miles from the city center and is about a 45 drive on the highway to the city.
Several major US carries including American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines and Continental Airlines offer service to Comalapa with direct flights from Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Atlanta and Newark. There is also service from Panama City, Mexico City and other South American and Latin American destinations.
The modern terminal is smaller than many major airports, but it is a clean and organized terminal that allows for quick retrieval of items in the baggage claim area. Located in the arrivals terminal in baggage claim are rental car agencies, including major services such as Budget, Alamo, Avis and Hertz as well as regional services such as Argus Rentals. Buses and taxicabs are also available outside of baggage claim. If you’re using a taxicab be sure to negotiate the fare’s price before you begin the journey.
