Moorhen Cottage at Court Lodge Farm

the lovely oak framed living area
1 of 16the lovely oak framed living area
Cottage -
1 Bedroom , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 2
Herstmonceux, Hailsham, East Sussex, England
A newly converted single storey barn, Moorhen Cottage is a comfortable refuge in the heart of our organic dairy farm. There is a large garden and terrace with a stunning view over the Pevensey levels to the South Downs, a wildlife pond, and a 'ha-ha' (with a 5 foot drop!) at the bottom of the garden. One well behaved dog is welcome, (doggie rules apply!) and you can get tasty meals 200 metres away at the Lamb Inn in the hamlet of Wartling, before sauntering back to the cosy cottage. Bedlinen and towels are provided and underfloor heating and solar hot water will ensure you are comfortable in all weathers.
Local attractions include Herstmonceux and Pevensey Castles, we are 5 miles from the coast, near the historic town of Battle and within easy reach of the South Downs National park, Rye Harbour and other wildlife sites.

About the neighbourhood
On the edge of the Pevensey Levels, with views to the sea and Eastbourne, We are close to historic Herstmonceux Castle with its moat and beautiful grounds, and 100 metres from the Lamb Inn at Wartling, which serves delicious food and is full of local character. The cottage is warm and cosy and very private, the area is renowned for its wildlife and there are lovely walks across the fields and in nearby woodland, yet we are not too far from many interesting places to visit.
Getting around
A car is essential unless you're cycling, as there isn't any public transport to Wartling . If you're planning to visit London for a day out to see the sights the nearest suitable stations are Battle or Polegate. Brighton can also be accessed easily by train from Polegate - useful as the traffic into Brighton can be heavy at times.
