The lodge is stunning! Nestled in woodland by the pond and river, it’s secluded, peaceful and feels a million miles from everything. It’s beautifully equipped with super comfy beds, a great wood burner and all the mod cons you’ll need. The welcome basket is a treat and we spent several days in half term here just chilling out, fishing and just relaxing. Couldn’t wish for anywhere better. A perfect stay in the Forest.

Great location great accommodation great wildlife.great stay.only moan I think guests of riverside lodge should have access to all fishing pegs not just the one in front of the lodge.maybe on a first come basis with the other cottages. Overall everything you could want from a holiday lodge come bed sofa .wonderful log burner.would highly recommend bat and ball pub and urban reef bar on boscombe beach ( very nice beach) would definitely recommend if the fishing rules were changed believe the owner is akeen fisherman so I'm sure he would understand.

We booked Riverside Lodge for our main holiday. It was double what we would normally pay for a UK holiday but wanted somewhere special, luxurious and well equipped and Riverside Lodge seemed to fit the bill perfectly. The reviews were excellent, so we took the plunge and booked. On arrival the lodge was certainly in a beautiful secluded location. The track down to the lodge can get quite muddy so wellies or washable shoes are a must and it is best to leave them on the rack outside the front door. The flooring is very practical vinyl throughout (except the bedrooms and bathrooms) which is just as well as we did track some dirt into the hall on arrival. When I looked for a mop to clean the floor, I could not find one, found the bucket, but no mop so I had to get down on my hands and knees with a cloth to clean the floor as I did not want to track mud through the lodge. Whilst I was down cleaning the floor I noticed the skirtings was dirty and grubby, a quick wipe and it was clean. Why did the cleaner miss this? They advertise that lots of items are supplied. I.E washing up liquid, dishwashing tablets (both of which were missing) as were the washing machine tablets. I did not bring my own as I thought they were supplied so within 30 minutes of arriving we had to contact the Manager who did bring over the missing items. At this point we had not fully inspected the property which was our mistake. Upon further inspection we found the property to be very grubby and in some cases downright dirty. Found long back hairs in the bath Nail clippings in the bathroom Kitchen clock very dusty and covered in old fluff Dust and hairs behind TV which is on the kitchen worktop. Fridge salad tray had debris inside which I had to clean before putting our own food into it. There was also a "substance" around the rim of the salad tray. Found 2 large sticky patches on the floor in the lounge. I used the newly supplied mop to clean these up. The settee has lots of stains on the surface. Fat splatters up the outside of the microwave (which is next to the hob). There was no excuse for this as the microwave was lovely and clean inside. Some kitchen utensils were left in a very dirty unusuable condition. Burnt dried on food had not been cleaned off. Once again a quick easy wash and they were clean. Why did the cleaner not do this? The inside of the oven door was covered in grease. The maintenance man cleaned this off when he came to look at the faulty hob! Mugs in the cupboard had nasty tea/coffee rings around them and we had to wash them before using them. Given the dirty condition we found some of the utensils etc in we decided to wash everything before use. The property was generally very grubby and I have attached photos to show just some of the things we discovered. There was a problem with the hob and we were without this for 4 days. In the end they had to replace the hob and it's complete wiring circuit. We had the maintenance man and an electrician come in over the course of the 4 days. On the 4th day the complete circuit replacement was taking place so we had no alternative but to leave the lodge. As nice as both men were, friendly and polite, I had no wish to spend part of our holiday with them. We had intended to go out for a small supplies top up, but stayed out far longer than we intended to allow the work to take place. They left at 4pm and we went out at 8am. We specifically chose self catering as eating out is difficult due to one of our party having a medical condition. Throughout the problems the property manager was kept aware of what was going on and on the 4th day she came down in person to tell us that any request for compensation had to be through the company we booked with as our contract was with them and not Short Stay Homes. The lodge is owned by Short Stay Homes and we booked through New Forest Cottages. TIP if you decide to stay here book direct with the owner. We got caught up in a very nasty situation with no one taking responsibility for the inconvenience we experienced and that I had to spend hours cleaning the cottage on arrival. We were offered nominal compensation direct from the owner but it was pointed out to us that our contract was with New Forest Cottages and our complaint should be directed to them. I did email New Forest Cottages on the second day to advise them of the problems. The whole situation as regards compensation was handled very badly and unprofessionally with us caught in the middle. The lodge is priced as a premium property and I expected it to be as advertised, sadly it was generally grubby and some items very dirty, not what I would expect from a property of this calibre. I will say the beds were very comfortable with very soft pillows (which were fine for us). If you prefer a firmer pillow - bring it with you. This was supposed to be a relaxing holiday to help us recharge after recent events but to have to spend quite a bit of time cleaning up at the beginning of our holiday was not something I had expected to do, during our stay and at the end I would expect to have to clean up after ourselves but certainly not at the beginning. I was worn out before we had even started our holiday. After the was the whole incident was handled and the grubby state of the lodge we left early, very disillusioned and let down..

Beautiful lodge with every thing you are likely to want, and all in great condition and fantastic location. Scenery is fantastic great place to chill and I’m sure we will return one day. It’s a 25 minute stroll into Fordingbridge and a 10 minute walk through woods into sandy balls. The river is very fast flowing and very weedy so limits fishing possibilities. The pond surrounding the lodge showed absolutely no form of life and after trying every possible bait with not so much as a bite we came to the conclusion that the otters must of emptied the pond. But on the last night on returning earlier than usual at dusk there was a lot of movement and indeed fish taking food from surface. Not masses but obvious there are fish still in pond, must of just been our bad fishing tactics. Still very enjoyable setting, Caroline was fantastic with communications and indeed helped me and sourced a double birthday cake for my friends birthdays whilst staying there. Thank you for everything Caroline.Tim

First booked this location back in September last year, based on the photographs and reviews. When we arrived, the setting is amazing, set back from the main road, with secluded parking the lodge could be in the middle of nowhere, no sounds but the babble of the river and the waterfall (that you can turn on and off to suit!) There is a short slope to take down your belongings and a small trolley is provided to help with that. Once you see the lodge, it looks fantastic, with the small pond to the front (complete with resident duck family) and the woodland setting. The lodge itself is extremely well equipped, with WiFi, sky tv, dishwasher, washer dryer and two bathrooms! The view of the river and pond from the lounge of the lodge let you appreciate nature, with all manor of birds, insects and fish that are just outside, you can feed the fish and the ducks will let you know when they are hungry by making themselves present on the decking and even waddling into the lodge to be fed! There are two bedrooms, with ample storage and a tv in the main bedroom. The extra large bed ensures a good nights sleep, along with the ability to open the patio doors should it get too warm (we stayed in the July heatwave, so found the ability to open the doors at night much better than a window). The lodge has two sun decks which allow you to sit comfortably whatever time of day it is either in the sun or out of the sun, depending on your preference! There is a small seating area outside with a picnic table, bench and umbrella so you can sit and eat or just appreciate the setting. At night, you can control the outside lighting of the paths, so if you decide to go for a stroll you don’t fall in the pond. On arrival a welcome basket is provided with some fantastic treats, including handmade fudge, fresh eggs, local honey and Prosecco! Not to mention milk in the fridge, fresh flowers and local sourced bottled water. Fordingbridge is a few minutes drive or walk, and has a good variety of pubs and shops, including a well stocked Co-op supermarket that saves having to travel too far away for any essential items during your stay. If you want to go somewhere to relax and enjoy a fantastic part of this country, couldn’t recommend it here enough, the setting is perfect, even in the winter, there is under floor heating and a log burner which would make for cosy evenings in on the very comfy sofa. There is even no need to do a thorough clean when you leave. As locations go, you would find this hard to beat, everything has been thought of, for our stay anyway, if you go you won’t be disappointed, and won’t want to leave.

This lodge has been very well placed for a holiday get away set in the most tranquil location. the lodge has fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and is very comfortably appointed. If you are looking for somewhere to relax, you will not find a better place. No need for TV/ WiFi, just open the windows and watch the nature around you.

We are recently returned from a short stay in this top class self catering holiday lodge. We were charmed by the resident Mr & Mrs Mallard, the flash of blue giving away a passing kingfisher in search of dinner and the peace and tranquillity of the gardens. The welcome basket of goodies of local produce went down well and was greatly appreciated. Fordingbridge, is a short distance away (less than a mile), offering good pubs and general shopping facilities - I bought a beautiful outfit for a wedding in Timothy's at very reasonable prices!

You will not be disappointed staying at this amazing lodge hidden away with only the gorgeous wildlife as your neighbours! Sitting on the veranda fishing, watching the amazing scenery, was a little bit of paradise and felt like a wellbeing week to totally escape from the everyday buziness of life. The kids loved exploring the forest bordering the property and canoeing up and down the River Avon seeking out all the incredible wildlife and going through all the fallen trees, such an adventure for them. We also loved cycling from the lodge to Sandyballs and following some cycling roots along very quiet roads stopping off in Tea Rooms along the way and mingling alongside the wild donkeys and ponies. This place is truly gorgeous we could not and would not fault it in any way and we are very lucky to have experienced many happy memories here to treasure.

Our stay at Riverside Lodge was one of our best holidays. The peaceful situation on the lakeside and river was relaxing and we particularly enjoyed sitting on the verandah and watching the swans with their cygnets, white cows and their calves and best of all were the magnificent sunsets over the water. I was lucky enough to see a kingfisher which settled on the rope outside our bedroom window. Magic. Walks in the New Forest were lovely as always and we had two excellent lunches at the Fighting Cocks pub nearby. What more could anyone want?
