We stayed at the Pavilion during October for a family get together. The house was clean, warm, well equipped and comfortable. The 2 bedrooms down stairs ideally suited the elderly and disabled members of the group and each bedroom had a bathroom which was great. The sky sports package on tv was very much appreciated. The large parking area was also a bonus. The owner was very helpful beforehand and gave us all the information we needed. Whilst there we enjoyed walking on the beach, with our dog. We also walked into Whitby and to Runswick Bay. The cafes in Sandsend were also good. We would recommend this house to others.

Really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and it suited the needs of all your group so well. We also enjoy a walk to Whitby along the beach (when the tide's out of course!). It's about 40-45 minutes usually and you can always get the bus back if you don't fancy the return. I do hope you'll be able to visit us again in the future.

My 2nd stay at the Pavilion and just as brilliant as it was pre covid. Great sea views and by the beach. Spacious house with 5 bathrooms which are all of a high standard. The property has everything you need in terms of equipment and like last time was immaculate when our party arrived. The communication with the owner was great and quick as well. I would highly recommend this property for a large family or group stay.

A great location but the house smelled stale and wasn’t very clean. I took it up with the owner and was told it was because it was the end of a busy season. Unacceptable in my opinion.

I am very sorry you were disappointed in your stay at the house but I have to say a 2 star review is a disproportionate and unfair picture of our email correspondence. I always check with guests after their stay and you told me you'd had a 'lovely week' but mentioned 2 issues which were some stains on doors and paintwork and a smell of fried food which had lingered in the house probably as you yourself suggested from the guest leaving that morning having had a fried breakfast prior to departure (which is unfortunate but beyond our control). My actual reply to you was as follows and I quote: 'I’m pleased you enjoyed your stay but sincerely apologise that some aspects of the house were not up to scratch. Unfortunately your visit comes at the end of a long season of back to back visitors and from your photos and comments I can see that the doors and paintwork have been overlooked which shouldn’t happen but may explain why. I will take this up with our cleaners'. As you didn't contact me during your stay with any complaints to allow us to rectify any issues at the time it's surprising and disappointing to me that you feel the above justifies a 2 star review. We take any guest complaint or suggestion very seriously and try very hard to maintain the house to a high standard which is probably why so many of our guests choose to return.

Thank you very much for the lovely review! We’re always trying hard not just to maintain everything to a high standard but also to improve year on year so it’s very nice to have that recognised.

We visited in a large family group age range of 8-86. It was perfect for us all, 5 bedrooms & 5 bathrooms certainly helped us enjoy our time at The Pavilion. Have to say as well the bathrooms are excellent. Loads of space inside & out & the kids certainly enjoyed the large garden. Also ideal was the desk upstairs allowing crucial exam revision to be completed in peace and quiet. Ample parking too with a ramp for wheelchair access. Very short walk down to the beach, cafe or fantastic local pub. If you are looking for large accommodation that is of a high standard in a great location I can certainly recommend the pavilion.

We stayed at the Pavilion over October half term for a multi generation family holiday. There were 9 of us in all, ranging from 7 months to 64 years, plus a dog. We had plenty of room to relax and the house is very well equipped for group catering. The large garden is safe for children. The beach, cafe, pub and restaurant are a few minutes walk away (slightly uphill coming back and there is an inclined concrete ramp up to the garden entrance). Whitby is a short drive away or a longer amble along the beach (tide permitting). Anne was very helpful with our booking as we had to rearrange several times due to COVID restrictions. We will definitely return.

Stayed there for a week in a party of six adults, and three children under the age of seven years. The accommodation, with a bathroom for each of the five bedrooms was ideal, allowing privacy and space. The kitchen was superbly equipped and, if necessary, we could have cooked and served up a banquet for us all, if wanted. However, the fabulous weather, huge garden, and outside facilities were perfect for a couple of barbeques. Plus the local pub, with the amazing adjacent restaurant, and excellent cafes meant that we ate outside most of the time. The children loved the safe little inlet next to the beach and we all enjoyed the sea. We loved The Pavilion so much that we have booked a return visit next year.

Thank you for your lovely review of the house. As you say the house is in a great position close to the beach and the local pub along with some very nice cafes. We visit often ourselves and try to make sure it's a home from home for our guests also. Look forward to welcoming you back next year.

Lovely 5 bedroom / 5 bathroom house in Sandsend Whitby. Had my husband's 70th birthday celebration there with the family. The house has plenty of parking and is very well equipped. Would definitely recommend the property.

Despite the wet weather, three generations of the family were warm and comfortable in this spacious, well-equipped property. Would recommend for any time of year. An easy walk to the beach - fabulous sunrises - but the children also very much enjoyed the garden.

This is a very well appointed house with a large safe garden for children to play. There is loads of room for 10 people. It is situated in a quiet position away from the frenzy of central Whitby but is only about two or three minutes walk to a beach. Good pub and restaurants also within walking distance.

About the neighbourhood
Located at the foot of Lythe bank Sandsend is a picturesque village with cottages set against a backdrop of cliffs and two meandering streams which lead to the sandy beach. The beach featured as one of Britain's 20 best beaches by Telegraph Travel in July 2011, Sandsend beach is 'Set against a backdrop of grassy cliffs, where the wide sweep of beach from Whitby ends, this stretch is quieter and prettier than its famous neighbour. Children play in the little becks that flow across the sand and ducks waddle across the green in charming Sandsend village. This is a great place for fossil hunting at low tide.' Sandsend Beach is also a popular destination for surfers with the village having its own surf school for any aspiring beginners. The village is served by a local shop, Sandsend Stores,...
