Shepherds hut
Our luxury shepherd hut is handcrafted on the estate by Blackdown Shepherd Huts. It boasts beautiful views across historic parkland. The interior is tastefully designed with a country feel. There is a log burner to cosy up next to and kitchen facilities to cook with, including an outdoor firepit and pizza oven. It has an ensuite with shower and flushing toilet. To make the most of the space, the bed has been designed to fold away when not needed but is easy to pull down at the end of the day. It is ideally placed with easy access to explore the West Country. Woodfired hot tub for exclusive use by guests
House Rules
Pets not allowedNot suitable for childrenNo smoking
It is important for visitors to be aware that our shepherd hut is on wheels and therefore is accessed by means of climbing up four steps, there is no handrail. The bed will need to be pulled down using a strap at night and pushed back up during the day. The hut is sited in a field and while there is a 100m long level pathway leading to it, depending upon the time of year it may not be possible to drive any closer and there is no parking immediately next to the hut.

Wow a perfect break
Loved everything about our stay, we stayed in Stanley shepherd's hut, it was spotlessly clean, well equipped with a shower, log burner, hot tub which was fab, comfy bed, nice little touches like milk tea coffee hot chocolate and Marshmallows, the weather was perfect for November we had breakfast outside we cooked inside and out on the firepit, everything was stunning, already booked for next year and can't wait. Cosy and perfectly crafted
My husband and I spent two nights in Stanley hut to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We received a warm welcome from Richard the owner together with homemade cake. The hut is exquisite and beautiful inside and out. Although my husband is 6ft 3 he could still stretch out on the bed. We ate locally at the 5 Dials Inn at Horton’s Cross which was wonderful. The hut was warm and equipped with everything needed! I did have visions of the hut being on a country estate where we could ditch the car for the day but it wasn’t quite like that. There are local walks by arrangement but the estate Kitchen cafe is a mile walk away across a very busy main road. As you would expect from any type of camping the wildlife can be noisy which in this case are the crows. That’s part of sleeping close to nature but the hut was only a small field away from a very busy road and traffic noise could be heard most of the night. It didn’t ruin anything but I wasn’t aware before hand. We are fortunate to live in a quiet village so not a noise we are used to. We tried the hot tub but couldn’t seem to get it hot enough after 2 hours and didn’t want to use all the wood. The fire pit pizza oven however was a success and we enjoyed the evening playing board games in front of it. I would definitely stay again and cannot fault the hut.

The perfect hideaway
My wife and I stayed in Stanley hut for my birthday treat. It was utterly delightful and just what we needed to get away from it all. We made use of the log-fired tub out the back, and the pizza oven! Such great fun. My only other comment would be that the owners didn't tell us we'd have 50 odd other residents sharing the hut with us; there was quite obviously a ladybird nest somewhere in the bathroom because I spent the whole time flicking the little blighters out of the window!

Best Shepherds hut
We loved staying in Stanley. The quality is what set this apart. We could happily have stayed a week instead of just two nights. Thank you so much.

Fantastic, secluded, relaxing getaway
My stay here was fabulous - the weather was excellent so we were lucky enough to spend a lot of time outside in the hot tub. The facilities in the hut were great; the bed was a good size and very comfy, the shower was hot and there was enough room for a weekend away - even to do the cooking! I couldn't recommend this enough - thank you to you both for your hospitality (and cake!).

The best place I have ever stayed.
Top quality accommodation in a bespoke shepherd hut. So many extra features make this top notch... from the two person fire heated hot tub, to the pizza oven, to the fantastic hosts of Em And Rich. It is for those who appreciate the best of Somerset life. I felt it a prilpvilage to enjoy such an amazing place for the weekend.

About the neighbourhood
Situated at the foot of the Blackdown Hills, near Ilminster, we are within easy reach of the Somerset Levels and Glastonbury, Dorset’s Jurassic Coast and Lyme Regis, Exmoor, Dartmoor and the North Devon Coast. On the Estate, why not explore with one of our guided walks by arrangement including campfire coffee or tea, ranging from 1km to 10km. Walk in woodland enjoying the bluebells in April/May or discover our Apple blossom/Cider trail around the orchards on the Estate in the Spring/Autumn. With plenty of hedgerows why not pick some blackberries to take home? Find the Walled garden on the site of the old Mansion House. Pick your way through the woods to find the old Chard Branch Line railway.
Getting around
Off the Estate there is plenty to do locally. The Somerset levels are easily accessible and great for cycling. The Blackdown Hills are visible from the window and offer more opportunity for exploring this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty via the 30km long Here Path Trail through Forestry Commission woodland. The Market Town of Ilminster is 2 miles away, with Market day each Thursday it also offers many independent shops including the award-winning butchers; Bonners. West country cheeses can be found at Silver Street Dairy and seasonal fruit and vegetables at Mike’s Greengrocers. Nearby in the village of Dowlish Wake is Perry’s Cider Mill. And near the village of Hambridge is the Somerset Cider Brandy Company and the Forrest and Brown
