Great stay!
Myself and 4 friends had the nicest Easter Bank holiday in this lovely cottage, in the most picturesque village. The cottage is the perfect size for 5/6 adults to relax comfortably and the garden is gorgeous and an excellent added extra when the sun was shining. We had a few issues cooking with the aga as the actual "oven" space is limited when cooking for 5 people but we worked around it. There were lots of nice homely touches throughout however we couldn't help but notice a vast amount of spider webs and dust around the house but I'm aware this is difficult to deal with in a thatched cottage! Overall we had a great stay, thank you!

We are always delighted to get positive feedback from our guests. The spiders are a bother with their webs and debris they drop. I am trying various gentle ways to discourage them, they are harmless and I would prefer not to go in with the vacuum cleaner and kill them. Thanks again. Melody

Lovely cottage with fantastic gardens and only a short walk to a wonderful village pub!
We had a wonderful stay in this cottage for 2 nights. The cottage has lots of charm and character with fantastic gardens that capture the sunshine all day. There is almost no road noise at night which was a bonus as we had two small babies in need of peaceful sleep. The rooms were spacious and clean and the extra toilet downstairs was great when the bathroom was in use. The village is home to a wonderful pub with a great outdoor area to while away the hours on a sunny day. This was in easy walking distance passing a well-stocked village shop on route!

Fantastic stay - thank you
Cottage was very cosy and comfortable. We stayed over New Year with my brother and parents. With 2 new babies was the perfect getaway. Ate at the pub just down the road which was delicious. Lots of nice walks local. The road at the front is busy but we just sent someone across first to check for traffic. Having a Christmas Tree was also great - thank you x

This was a very cosy, comfortable and warm place to stay. It felt like a second home to us as we quickly learnt how to cook on the agar and familiarised ourselves with the house. The children spent most of the time outside playing in the large garden and it was easy to be able to sit outside and enjoy meal time despite it being October and a little on the chilly side. The village pub was a 10 minute walk away and served amazing food which tempted us back a second night running. I would highly recommend Byeways to anyone who wanted to stay in a very traditional, but up to date with all the mod cons, cosy cotwalds cottage... Really lovely and relaxing!!

Weekend Break in Cotswolds
Bye ways is a beautifully appointed cottage in Long Compton. The cottage has been fitted to a high specification and is cosy and warm no matter how cold it is outside! - The kitchen has been really well kitted out with all the implements you could wish for and the Arga gives a great cottage feel whilst taking some getting used to for those who have never used one before!! - The village is well placed near Chipping Norton with some lovely walks in just a few mins drive of the cottage. The Pub in the Village - The Red Lion - servers great food and is very friendly and welcoming. You can walk to the Pub in 5 mins. Melody was a great host giving us all the details we needed and staying in touch to ensure we all had everything we needed. Highly recommended property

Charming
We spent a girly, family weekend at Byeways, visiting Blenheim Palace and Oxford while we were there. The cottage and garden are beautiful. The cottage was very cold when we arrived, but after putting the heating on it was very cosy! The cottage is on a main road, but we did not hear the cars! The cottage was very clean and tidy. We would love to stay again when it is a bit warmer and we can make more use of the garden. We didn't not get to meet the owners of the cottage. Overall, it is gorgeous cottage and would be more than happy to stay there again.

Brilliant!
Our group of adults and small children absolutely loved this cottage! For us it was a base to explore the surrounding area, but we wish we had more time to just sit and relax at this beautiful space. The garden is just beautiful and very large. Sitting outside of an evening with a glass of wine unwinding or starting the morning with a tea was just lovely. The cottage was bigger than I expected and fit our group well. We used the aga which was a new experience and it was nice to have something to cook on that had some power as a lot of holiday rentals seem to overlook this. We stocked up in Shipston before our arrival and didn't get to use the general store in Long Compton. Yes, as pointed out in another review, it is based beside a road that can get busy, but obviously this wasn't the case when this wonderful place was built and you forget about it when inside or out in the beautiful garden. Just use common sense when crossing the road and you'll be fine. We walked to the red Lion one evening and we weren't disappointed. Nice walk, great food and atmosphere. Overall a brilliant stay and we would definitely stay again.

Not what we expexted!
Our grandchildren loved the garden and the rocking horse in the in bedroom! However the cottage is neglected, smelled damp and foisty! There were cobwebs every where. around the bottom of lamp stands up the staircase in the downstairs toilet. Dead spiders scared our grandchildren and they wouldn't go to the toilet by themselves. Three lights were out in the kitchen so the lighting was very poor in the evening. The cottage hadn't been aired and I had rwo very bad night sleep due to the foisty smell in the downstairs bedroom. If this haf been a Hotel I would have checked ouy immediately and demanded a refund. This property is very expensive for what you get and it's a great shame because it could be a beautiful cottage.

Hi Alison, The bottom room where you stayed recently had a leak as a result of the thatch shrinking which we had repaired shortly before your arrival, I am certain this contributed to the smell you referred to, I apologies if this affected your stay. Please understand the cottage is very old and we have to work with in the constraints of the grade ll listing as far as refurbishment is concerned. The spiders are pretty persistent and are back hours after cleaning, they are harmless though. I will look into alternative methods of keeping them away, I think there are some sprays on the market. Thank you for you feedback. Kind regards Melody

Didn't reach our expectations
This was the 3rd self catering accommodation we stayed in during our 2 week holiday in Yorkshire, Lake District and Cotswolds and if I'm brutally honest, didn't come anywhere near the high standards of the other two. To be fair, the other 2 were luxury barn type conversions compared to this 'quaint elderly chocolate box' type property which has had some modern refurbishments. The positives were that it had a large back garden with shower and bath that worked very nicely and the pub up the road is first class. We notice that the property has a for sale sign outside and it just felt like a property the owner had lost interest in. We'd had quite a long drive from the lake district and were dying for a cup of tea only to find no milk left in the fridge, which is a huge faux pas quite honestly, since both previous properties had left starter packs for us. This meant that having just arrived after a long drive we had to hurry out to the local shop to get milk and toilet rolls, since there were none in the downstairs toilet and barely any upstairs....all very odd for a rental property. The other big problem for us was that if you went out the front door to walk into the village, the front door virtually opens onto the busy A road with the path on the other side and right on a blind corner. This makes crossing the road out of the cottage really dangerous. Lastly, the whole place was badly in need of a good clean. Yes I realise it's a very very old property however my parents used to live in an equally old property and theirs was spotless. We had booked 2 nights to attend Countryfile Live at Bleinham Palace but actually went home after one night. In summary, I'm sure some people will like this property who seek the quaint floor creaking oldy woldy type of accommodation. but for us proximity to a busy road and having to run up the road immediately to the local shop for expected essentials tarnished our stay hugely.

Hi Steve, On the brochure I send out to all our guests we do advise which items are available in the kitchen (which is kept to a minimum to keep the mice out) and I can only apologies if there wasn't enough loo paper I was there on Sunday and replenished the stocks. We maintain a high standard of cleanliness and I will review the standard with our cleaning company. I appreciate your feedback however and will endeavour to improve our service to our future guests. Sadly not much can be done with regards to the position of the house in relation to the road, there is a speed limit of 30 but sadly motorists still drive too fast through the country villages. Kind regards Melody

Superb Cotswolds getaway
Our stay was wonderful and very much what you imagine a perfect trip to the Cotswolds would contain. The cottage is really beautiful, very tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. The garden is very enchanting too and our children thoroughly enjoyed their Easter egg hunt. Ideal location in terms of getting to all the various sights/outings and the local pub (the Red Lion) is a must. Owners were incredibly helpful in advance of our stay. All in all, I'd thoroughly recommend.
