Cottage
Gairnshiel Cottage (Cobbinshaw) offers delightful recently refurbished holiday accommodation. It is situated between West Calder and Carnwath in the heart of the Scottish countryside but still within 40 minutes drive of two stunning cities – Edinburgh and Glasgow. The views from the cottage are breathtaking: it has a wonderful position on the organic farm of South Cobbinshaw overlooking the Pentland Hills and Cobbinshaw Loch. The road leading to the cottage is a typical uneven farm track that crosses the loch via a causeway adding to the feeling of 'getting away from it all'. The 310 acre loch was built in 1818 to feed the Union Canal and was also used by passing steam trains to collect water. The 310 acre loch was built in 1818 to feed the Union Canal and was also used by passing steam trains to collect water. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) due to wintering wildfowl and is popular with anglers and birdwatchers. For those who enjoy the outdoors but would like to take it a bit easier, fishing on the loch can be organised for you. Nearby Harburn Golf Club is a challenging 18-hole parkland course and there are walks of all levels starting literally on your doorstep, taking in stunning scenery and fascinating history. If shopping and attractions are your thing - the designer shops of Livingston are 15 minutes away and unique little shops and galleries are found in Biggar and Peebles. Not far away is New Lanark World Heritage Village. Surrounded by beautiful native woodland and close to the Falls of Clyde, the 200 year old cotton mill village is Scotland's most important memorial to the Industrial Revolution. Take a stroll along the riverside on one of the woodland walks and experience the outstanding beauty the Falls of Clyde - where the River Clyde cascades 85ft. For those who like to travel a bit further afield the scenic splendours of the Borders, Perthshire, Fife, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are all within easy reach and make for great day trips.More

I cannot praise this place enough. Having been away from Scotland for two years, I felt right at home here. This is, without a doubt, the best place we have ever stayed. The road to the property is badly damaged but this didn't bother us....More

What a beautiful place. Worked away from home for eight years and this has been my favourite place so far. Host was very friendly helpful and the house/cottage was spotless Thankyou for a lovely stay. Made getting up and going to work a pleasure.

Whilst the cottage itself was very nice, our stay was ruined by spiders constantly dropping from the beams in the main bedroom, they were everywhere, this really dampened what would have otherwise been a lovely cottage.More

Hi, we’re sorry to hear that you had a problem with spiders but am rather surprised that it’s taken over 6 months to write this review! You stayed with us in October 2018! It’s the first time that anyone has mentioned having a problem with...More

We stayed at Gairnshiel Cottage over Christmas and it was the perfect antidote to our busy lives. The cottage itself is cosy but had plenty of room for our family of two adults and two teens. It is surrounded by fields and there are views...More

What a lovely place Gairnshiel Cottage is, perfect for a quiet and relaxing break. Comfortable and clean and a warm welcome on our arrival. Only thing I wish we had known about was the drive up to the causeway, maybe we wouldn't have had the...More

Gairnshiel Cottage was our ideal little slice of Scotland. There was so much detail and thought put into every nook and cranny that made our rural retreat convenient, comfortable, and exquisitely scenic. We had everything we needed to feel at home yet far away from...More
