Shepherds hut
'Shepherds Rest' is our newly completed shepherds hut and provides tasteful, luxurious accommodation with a difference. It has an ensuite shower room, a settee by day that folds into a double bed at night and a small cooking area with hob and a small fridge. The hut is a work of art, superbly insulated, beautifully crafted and based on the original 19th century Victorian shepherd's hut. It makes for the ideal hideaway and rural retreat taking you back in time for a truly relaxing and unique place to stay. The views from the shepherds hut are breathtaking: it has a wonderful position on the organic farm of South Cobbinshaw overlooking the Pentland Hills and Cobbinshaw Loch. The 310 acre loch was built in 1818 to feed the Union Canal and was also used by passing steam trains to collect water. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) due to wintering wildfowl and is popular with anglers and birdwatchers. For those who enjoy the outdoors but would like to take it a bit easier, fishing on the loch can be organised for you. Nearby Harburn Golf Club is a challenging 18-hole parkland course and there are walks of all levels starting literally on your doorstep, taking in stunning scenery and fascinating history. If shopping and attractions are your thing - the designer shops of Livingston are 15 minutes away and unique little shops and galleries are found in Biggar and Peebles. Not far away is New Lanark World Heritage Village. Surrounded by beautiful native woodland and close to the Falls of Clyde, the 200 year old cotton mill village is Scotland's most important memorial to the Industrial Revolution. Take a stroll along the riverside on one of the woodland walks and experience the outstanding beauty the Falls of Clyde - where the River Clyde cascades 85ft. For those who like to travel a bit further afield the scenic splendours of the Borders, Perthshire, Fife, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are all within easy reach and make for great day trips.More

We stayed at the Shepherds Hut whilst touring round Scotland, this being our 3rd hut and was by far the most equipped with the luxury of a bathroom! We found the hut a place of serenity after visiting Edinburgh during the daytime which we found...More

Would have been roomier and more comfortable if a solo visitor had been able to close the bed into a couch during the day. Also, I would suggest a microwave instead of (or as well as) the hob. Otherwise, it was well nigh perfect!More

Thanks for your review and suggestions. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. The bed does fold into a couch but I appreciate it takes a bit of an effort. With regard to the microwave it is something that I have considered but have tried to...More

This very clean, well equipped, compact, warm and unusual accommodation was everything I could have wanted. I spent two very peaceful weeks here, the views with breakfast were wonderful. I found the local rail service from West Calder to Glasgow or Edinburgh every 30 mins...More

There are over 100 famous brands under one roof — all with up to 60% off. It is 31.5 miles long and linked to the Forth and Clyde Canal at Falkirk. It closed to commercial traffic in 1933. The Millennium Link project has restored the canals from the Forth to the Clyde. The unique Falkirk Wheel has now replaced the previous connecting locks. Cruise the calm and peaceful Union Canal i...
