Situated in an acre of private gardens, the cottage is approached from the A48, through a secure, electric gate to the private driveway. This pretty and very secluded converted barn is the ideal location for rest and relaxation, just 2 miles from Lydney - the gateway to the Royal Forest of Dean. Downstairs the Barn is open plan. The kitchen/dining area contains an upright "half and half" fridge/freezer, halogen hob, oven and a dishwasher, dining table and four chairs. The lounge has a corner sofa, large enough for 3/4 people and two bucket chairs - enabling you to enjoy the view through the French doors to the garden to watch the wildlife. There is a wall mounted electric fire and TV. Amazon Prime and Netflix is provided free of charge, so you don't have to miss your favourite shows on the days when you feel like staying in and chillaxing! As mobile signals can be sporadic in the Forest, there is a landline telephone with "honesty box" in the lounge to enable you to make calls in comfort. WiFi is free. We provide a DVD player and several DVD's at the property for your further enjoyment, along with books and games. Well behaved pets are welcome at £10 per pet per stay. Please advise how many pets you will be bringing when requesting a quote, or advise when emailing us. Pets are not permitted upstairs or on the furniture unless covered completely with your own throw. There is also an Alexa Show in the lounge from which you can view the entry gate, answer the doorbell, play radio or your favourite songs, playlists etc. The newly refurbished bathroom comprises a sink, toilet and bath with handles. (No dogs in the bath please!) There is an outside shower with thermostatic control for washing off muddy paws or for a full doggie shampoo, or for removing mud from boots. Upstairs the main double bedroom has a wardrobe, a Freeview TV and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a queen bed and a single bed, a small wardrobe, chest of drawers and Freeview TV. The large, wild gardens at the front and the rear make the Barn a great location for amateur bird and wildlife spotters, attracting visits from otters, heron, kingfishers and buzzards. There is a patio in front of the French doors with a table and four chairs - along with cushions and an umbrella for when it is warm and dry. There are steps leading down to Colne Brook with a further seating area allowing you sit and watch the brook and passing birds and fish. At the rear of the property there is a small raised patio area with a bistro table and two chairs. (Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage, and guests are requested to provide their own ash/litter containers for smoking outside). Located on the A48 between Chepstow and Lydney, the Barn is an ideal base for exploring the historical cities of Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and Cheltenham and the many castles in the area. Nearby local attractions include the Royal Forest of Dean, Chepstow Castle, Symonds Yat Rock, famous for its nesting Peregrine falcons, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway and Puzzlewood - where many popular series and films have been filmed (Merlin, The Hobbit and Star Wars). Other attractions within a 40 minute drive include Gloucester Cathedral, where some of Harry Potter was filmed, and Brunel's SS Great Britain in Bristol. Swan Tea Rooms is directly opposite Colne Brook Barn, which serves good food including afternoon teas, and is fully licensed. There are 4 pubs within a 5 minute drive or a short walk away, providing good food. There are 2 local shops, one in Woolaston, one in the BP Garage in Alvington, both around half a mile.

Another good week at the barn
Have just returned home after our second visit to the Barn, we were not disappointed, what a lovely place it is so quiet and peaceful, there is a bit of road noise it’s true, but you don’t really take any notice of it . The barn itself has everything you could need ,all kitchen appliances,Sky T V and Alexa if your wife won’t talk to you lol .As always it’s spotlessly clean ,thank you Sandra 😉 . Shirley and Mike don’t bother you at all but are there if you need them ,which I like . The location was spot on for us ,good for forest walks and fishing on the Wye , perfect ,the best review is we will be back Geoff n Chris Osman

2nd stay here and again not disappointed. So many things to do in the area and then come back to a lovely cottage with the amazing wildlife and birdlife in the garden. Owners are extremely helpful as well.

Lovely place
Just spent a week here and it was lovely. Very homely with everything you need. Sofa was really comfortable and relaxing with the fire lit. Bed was comfortable and had good night's rest every night. Wales was in lockdown so were a little limited for walking but Shirley and Mike have a folder in the barn with local walks which we used a couple of times. Overall, very good and will almost certainly be back next year!

Wonderful cottage
Lovely cottage, had all we needed and more. Really clean and comfortable, all mod cons including sky and an Alexa. Cooking was made easy as the kitchen was fully equipped, it really was home from home. The garden was amazing and well loved by our dog! Fantastic communication from the owners during the Covid 19 pandemic, they couldn’t have been more helpful. Thoroughly recommend.

Love it
This was our 3rd time staying at the barn, soo relaxing. We walked for miles over the week, usually ending in one of the pubs, would recommend the globe for food and just a short walk back if you’ve had a few! Have already booked to come again!

Quiet and Relaxing
A big problem with this property is there is no phone signal at all. Yes there is wifi but not everyone uses the internet or has an iphone. If there was an emergency there is no way of contacting the emergency services. I asked if there was not something that could be done ie a signal enhancer only to be told no and after returning home the holiday letting company told me the owner had given me a 1 star review and labelled me condescending for mentioning that this should have been in the details of the property. Yes it is a lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings and great for relaxation if you want to be cut off from the outside world.

Unfortunately in the Forest, as in many rural areas, there is an acknowledged mobile signal problem - and to have a signal enhancer, you have to at first pick up a signal. There are areas around the property where a signal is available, but this can vary depending on mobile provider. We regret it is not something we have any control over, so we offer free WiFi as a substitute for email, WhatsApp etc., WifiCalls, etc. In addition, many guests are pleased that they cannot be contacted at the property. My comments to Trip Advisor had nothing to do with the suggestion that the lack of mobile signal should be noted in the property details - and following our discussion was immediately rectified.
