The lounge has a corner sofa, large enough for 3/4 people and two bucket chairs - enabling you to enjoy the view through the French doors to the garden to watch the wildlife. There is a wall mounted electric fire and TV. Amazon Prime and Netflix is provided free of charge, so you don't have to miss your favourite shows on the days when you feel like staying in and chillaxing! As mobile signals can be sporadic in the Forest, there is a landline telephone with "honesty box" in the lounge to enable you to make calls in comfort. WiFi is free. We provide a DVD player and several DVD's at the property for your further enjoyment, along with books and games. Well behaved pets are welcome at £10 per pet per stay. Please advise how many pets you will be bringing when requesting a quote, or advise when emailing us. Pets are not permitted upstairs or on the furniture unless covered completely with your own throw. There is also an Alexa Show in the lounge from which you can view the entry gate, answer the doorbell, play radio or your favourite songs, playlists etc. The newly refurbished bathroom comprises a sink, toilet and bath with handles. (No dogs in the bath please!) There is an outside shower with thermostatic control for washing off muddy paws or for a full doggie shampoo, or for removing mud from boots. Upstairs the main double bedroom has a wardrobe, a Freeview TV and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a queen bed and a single bed, a small wardrobe, chest of drawers and Freeview TV. The large, wild gardens at the front and the rear make the Barn a great location for amateur bird and wildlife spotters, attracting visits from otters, heron, kingfishers and buzzards. There is a patio in front of the French doors with a table and four chairs - along with cushions and an umbrella for when it is warm and dry. There are steps leading down to Colne Brook with a further seating area allowing you sit and watch the brook and passing birds and fish. At the rear of the property there is a small raised patio area with a bistro table and two chairs. (Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage, and guests are requested to provide their own ash/litter containers for smoking outside). Located on the A48 between Chepstow and Lydney, the Barn is an ideal base for exploring the historical cities of Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and Cheltenham and the many castles in the area. Nearby local attractions include the Royal Forest of Dean, Chepstow Castle, Symonds Yat Rock, famous for its nesting Peregrine falcons, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway and Puzzlewood - where many popular series and films have been filmed (Merlin, The Hobbit and Star Wars). Other attractions within a 40 minute drive include Gloucester Cathedral, where some of Harry Potter was filmed, and Brunel's SS Great Britain in Bristol. Swan Tea Rooms is directly opposite Colne Brook Barn, which serves good food including afternoon teas, and is fully licensed. There are 4 pubs within a 5 minute drive or a short walk away, providing good food. There are 2 local shops, one in Woolaston, one in the BP Garage in Alvington, both around half a mile.

Wonderful
This was our second stay at the property and again we were not disappointed. The welcome tray was much appreciated. The new drive way up to the back of the barn is a great addition and the large garden was ideal for our dog. The owners Shirley & Mike are friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. The Forest of Dean is a beautiful area and we will return.

Away from it all.
Colne Brook Barn offers a simple, very well equipped home away from home. It's in a pretty location and if being active is not your style then this cosy cottage is a restful retreat We were extended a friendly welcome by Shirley who we saw at the beginning of our holiday and at the end and the only other time that we saw her was when we went for a walk locally, she assured us that she was available at all times if the need arose. There is a main road running alongside the property which can be very noisy at certain times of the day even though it is completely blocked from view by the trees and bushes. This was not a concern for us as we are from London and are used to the hustle and bustle of a very busy city. However, the wildlife, relaxation and general feel more than made up for this and you can relax and unwind if you feel inclined. A car is not a necessity to tour the area and take in the local beauty spot like Lydney Harbour, Forest of Dean or even a trek over the border to Wales as the local bus for both directions stopped outside the end of the driveway of the barn and goes near Lydney train station and Chepstow. We would definitely recommend Colne Brook Barn and intend to return sometime in the future.

Just great.....
If you are looking for a modern detached barn for a few days away within its own piece of Gloucestershire countryside then look no further than Colne Brook Barn. Ideal for families and couples alike this Barn ticked all the boxes for us. The main plus for us was the beautiful garden which our dog enjoyed immensely running around along with the owners two dogs ! The children made the most of the Brook and tree swing too ! Thank you Shirley and Mike for your great hospitality. It was good to know we could contact you by phone or your website if we needed to. We will be back !

Wonderful, relaxing break
Colne Brook Barn is a perfect location for access to The Forest of Dean and all it has to offer, it's in a pretty location and if being active is not your style, then this cosy cottage is a restful retreat. Lots of wildlife to see around this area too, plus an added bonus for us is this cottage accepts well behaved pets. This was our second visit following a great stay at Christmas and we are now firm fans! Mike and Shirley are so friendly and make every effort to ensure your stay is as perfect as it can be. We particularly appreciate the little touches - such as the welcome tray including chocolate muffins plus a pint of milk in the fridge - a cuppa is always welcome after a car journey! We will be back!

If you are looking for wildlife...look no further!
The barn was exactly as we had imagined it to be. Shirley was lovely and could'nt do enough to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The garden was lovely and had plenty of room for our three dogs to run around without worry. The barn was extremely well equipped and we were so glad for the doggy towels as we had completely forgotten to take any. The main road running alongside the property can be very noisy at ceretain times of the day even though it is completely blocked from view by the trees and bushes. However; the wildlife, peace and relaxation and general feel more than made up for this. Thanks Shirley for a lovely time; hopefully we will be back soon! Jaineah & Ceri.

Wonderfully comfortable, relaxing and refreshing break
Colne Brook Barn offers a simple, very well equipped home away from home. The furnishings and facilities are high quality but homely. We were extended a friendly but understated welcome by Shirley, Bailey and Kizzi (and the pastries were welcome too). The barn was comfortable, well appointed and warm. Our dog, Snoopy, loved the garden, brook and paddocks to play in. The simple touches such as a basket of towels for Snoopy went the extra mile and made for a very easy holiday. We had a great week walking in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. Saw and photographed fallow deer and wild boar families as well as many birds and small mammals. We would definitely recommend Colne Brook Barn and intend to return as soon as we can
