The lounge has a corner sofa, large enough for 3/4 people and two bucket chairs - enabling you to enjoy the view through the French doors to the garden to watch the wildlife. There is a wall mounted electric fire and TV. Amazon Prime and Netflix is provided free of charge, so you don't have to miss your favourite shows on the days when you feel like staying in and chillaxing! As mobile signals can be sporadic in the Forest, there is a landline telephone with "honesty box" in the lounge to enable you to make calls in comfort. WiFi is free. We provide a DVD player and several DVD's at the property for your further enjoyment, along with books and games. Well behaved pets are welcome at £10 per pet per stay. Please advise how many pets you will be bringing when requesting a quote, or advise when emailing us. Pets are not permitted upstairs or on the furniture unless covered completely with your own throw. There is also an Alexa Show in the lounge from which you can view the entry gate, answer the doorbell, play radio or your favourite songs, playlists etc. The newly refurbished bathroom comprises a sink, toilet and bath with handles. (No dogs in the bath please!) There is an outside shower with thermostatic control for washing off muddy paws or for a full doggie shampoo, or for removing mud from boots. Upstairs the main double bedroom has a wardrobe, a Freeview TV and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a queen bed and a single bed, a small wardrobe, chest of drawers and Freeview TV. The large, wild gardens at the front and the rear make the Barn a great location for amateur bird and wildlife spotters, attracting visits from otters, heron, kingfishers and buzzards. There is a patio in front of the French doors with a table and four chairs - along with cushions and an umbrella for when it is warm and dry. There are steps leading down to Colne Brook with a further seating area allowing you sit and watch the brook and passing birds and fish. At the rear of the property there is a small raised patio area with a bistro table and two chairs. (Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage, and guests are requested to provide their own ash/litter containers for smoking outside). Located on the A48 between Chepstow and Lydney, the Barn is an ideal base for exploring the historical cities of Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and Cheltenham and the many castles in the area. Nearby local attractions include the Royal Forest of Dean, Chepstow Castle, Symonds Yat Rock, famous for its nesting Peregrine falcons, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway and Puzzlewood - where many popular series and films have been filmed (Merlin, The Hobbit and Star Wars). Other attractions within a 40 minute drive include Gloucester Cathedral, where some of Harry Potter was filmed, and Brunel's SS Great Britain in Bristol. Swan Tea Rooms is directly opposite Colne Brook Barn, which serves good food including afternoon teas, and is fully licensed. There are 4 pubs within a 5 minute drive or a short walk away, providing good food. There are 2 local shops, one in Woolaston, one in the BP Garage in Alvington, both around half a mile.

Peace and quiet in spades in a beautiful, well kept and well equipped cottage
I arrived slightly early at the Barn as Shirley and Mike very kindly texted me that the Barn was ready early as they knew I was already in the area and that was a lovely start to an excellent week. Shirley and Mike called in not long after I got there to say a friendly "Hi "and let me know how to contact them should I need to. What lovely people they are, most welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage itself was immaculate throughout and very well set up with everything you could need, just bring your toothbrush! I enjoyed an extremely pleasant, calm amd peaceful week at the Barn, shared with the local wildlife which was plentiful from Badgers, rabbits, foxes, Buzzards and birds of all varieties. I can heartily recommend a stay at Colne Brook Barn and if at all possible I will be back again myself. Thanks for a great stay to Shirley and Mike.

Great place to stay and take your dog
The hosts are friendly and welcoming and invite guests to share their grounds for walking and exercising dogs. Our dog enjoyed some playtime with the resident dogs too. The grounds are well fenced and secure including the private drive to Colne Brook Barn. My husband and I stayed there with my elderly parents who also enjoyed short walks and sitting on the bench by the stream when the sun came out. The cottage is sufficiently equipped for 4 people, the beds are especially comfortable and the heating system can be regulated to suit individual requirements in the rooms. Bathroom is on the ground floor so not ideal for elderly people who may need to go up and downstairs during the night! We were visiting relatives at nearby Chepstow so this was an ideal location for us and also for visiting the Forest of Dean for walking or cycling. We would love to stay again.

A home from home
Many thanks to Shirley and Mike for such a lovely stay at their Colne Brook Barn. It's a perfectly presented two bedroom holiday home with everything you could need, very tidy, clean and bright with lovely french doors which lead out onto the garden. We we're looking for a quiet break away from work and this was ideal, spending a lot of time relaxing making use of the Sky Movies and Sport which was lovely!! We were also greeted with really nice little added extras which you don't often get in holiday cottages, like towel animals and muffins! These little touches really do make your stay that little bit more perfect, thank you!! We popped out a couple of times for walks which were nice, the forest of dean isn't far away and it's lovely for walks and to stop for a picnic. We will definitely be returning for another relaxing break away, thank you both very much. All the best x

Perfect in every way
We had an absolutely relaxing stay at the barn. So cosy, warm and clean. The grounds around the barn were very well kept too and perfect for our dog to roam free and explore. Made to feel very welcome by Shirley and Mike and will definately be booking another stay !

Beautiful cottage, beautiful grounds
My partner, dog and I stayed in the barn in early December of this year, for a writer's retreat and rest from the hustle and bustle. We were more than pleased with the entire experience; from our initial correspondence with Shirley prior to our arrival, to the extremely warm and generous welcome we received. Shirley helped us to settle in and even collected us from the station (we travelled by train) and gave us a lift to the supermarket to get our supplied for the week, even though they could have been mistaken as supplies for the month! Shirley and her husband Mike were both very gracious and polite, and also respectful of our privacy during our stay. The cottage is cosy and warm, just as it looks in the pictures. The grounds were a highlight as our dog could roam freely without worry of escape. We hid away the whole time in the cottage and did not explore the surrounding areas (which is just what we wanted!), however we were granted the permission to use the adjoining fields, Shirley and Mike's grounds, to exercise and play with the dog. The settings are incredibly cosy and romantic, a very beautiful place to stay. We both couldn't recommend it more. If you are travelling here, best to travel by car due to the location of the station. We thought it would be within walking distance; it kind of is but you need to traverse a busy road so best to avoid it. We will be back on four wheels next year! Thanks Shirley and Mike for a fabulous stay and experience!

Fabulous barn cottage in fabulous surroundings
Couldn't get friendlier owners, so helpful! Everything you could ask for in the cottage too and so nicely kept and private, not overlooked but owners only a stone's throw away if you need anything. Look out for the towel animals on arrival!
