Beautiful cottage
What an idyllic cottage so beautifully and authentically decorated to represent a traditional rural Irish escape. The view from the garden is also really lovely, would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to escape from the hustle and bustle and in to the tranquility of rural Ireland .

The Quietest Place to Stay
This delightful cottage, off the beaten track, is one of the quietist places we have ever stayed. For absolute tranquility it can’t be beaten. A lovely spot with no disturbance, the ideal hideaway for those seeking peace and solitude. Everything needed supplied and a warm welcome and kind understanding from our host Kathleen when we had to change our arrangements. A most relaxing and restorative stay.

Peace & Tranquility at Heron’s Cove
We had a wonderful week staying at Heron’s Cove Cottage. The house is traditionally decorated and was a real home from home with everything we needed during our stay. We had cosy fires on the colder evenings but were blessed with good weather later in the week, so enjoyed sitting out on the decked areas enjoying the tranquility & beautiful view of the bay below. The house is a great base to head out to the many attractions to visit around West Cork. We were warmly welcomed by Kathleen who was so helpful & gave us ideas for places to eat in the local area. Would definitely return!

My partner Brian and I had the most amazing time....to wake each morning to the dawn chorus, sit in the evening infront of a toasty fire....this romantic home away from home is Ireland at its best. Thank you Kathleen for an unforgettable holiday x

A little bit of heaven!
We loved the peace and beauty of the countryside location and the amazing views out to Roaring Water Bay. It is just a short walk down to the shore and there is the sound of curlews and sea birds and we saw seals - and a heron in the cove. The cottage itself had everything we could want and combined modern amenities with a charming traditional feel. We felt very at home and comfortable there and were warmly welcomed by Kathleen. The local village is the picturesque Ballydehob, down narrow lanes, which is becoming quite a foody hotspot and for more shopping and lots of interest there is Schull and Skibbereen. The Skibbereen Heritage Centre with its Great Irish Famine Exhibition is excellent. We are planning our return visit….

A lovely cottage in a truly fabulous setting
Heron’s cove is a wonderful cottage with everything you could possibly want for a peaceful, Irish holiday. It overlooks Roaring Water Bay, which, in spite of its name is wonderfully quiet. There is a little private pathway down to the stony shore less than 5 minutes from the cottage, and decking by the house to take in the beautiful view. The cottage itself is beautifully set up with everything that you could possibly need and it was very clean, comfortable and welcoming.

Warm welcome to comfortable seaside cottage.
Warm welcome to comfortable, three-bedroom, well appointed cottage very close to Roaringwater Bay which, fortunately, was far from roaring but calm and sunny all week. Swimming from nearby jetty. Great food in Ballydehob and interesting walks and places to visit. A great week. Thank you Kathleen.

About the neighbourhood
Ballydehob (Béal an Dá Chab) is a charming village on the south west coast of Ireland. Lying about 20 miles east of Mizen Head, Europe's most westerly point, it is embraced by colourful hills and rich natural beauty and wildlife; the perfect place from which to explore West Cork. The village and its environs has a vibrant and diverse population, and the variety of bars, good eating places, fun festivals and community events ensure a warm welcome. Enjoy a walk by the river and across the 12 arch bridge, and take a stroll through the village and maybe participate in some light refreshments. And to Ballydey night either – live music and the craic are all part of the make up!West Cork is the place to head for – leaving hurried city lives behind to play along the long zig-zagging coastline, and walk or ride through peaceful inland woods and valleys.Nature sets the pace in this beautiful south west corner of Ireland – stretching from smart south-coast Kinsale to three rugged westerly peninsulas reaching into the wild Atlantic: Mizen Head, Sheep's Head and Beara.Hundreds of inlets, tiny coves, safe harbours and beaches are just right for long active days in the salty air – learning to sail, surfing, diving, whale watching, island-hopping, bird spotting, kayaking on a salt-water lake in the moonlight, messing about in boats. Or simply eating a fresh crab sandwich on a quayside. Thanks to its gentle and generous nature, this corner has a wonderful food culture. West Cork's farmers, award-winning artisan producers and chefs are leading Ireland's culinary revolution. From traditional pubs to world-class restaurants, at local farmers' markets, and long-established food festivals, you can enjoy great food right across West Cork. There's something restorative about the temperate climate and sub-tropical gardens, the tranquil lanes thick with fuchsia and montbretia, the sudden glimpses of water through the trees, the shifting light, and the soft greens, greys and violets of bays and distant mountains. There's edge-of-the-world drama too: climbing up to a mountain pass through ever-changing weather, crossing the bridge to the end of Mizen Head with the Atlantic crashing below, or taking the cable car to Dursey Island - one of over a hundred West Cork islands. Seven of these are inhabited, including Ireland's most southerly community on Oiléan Chléire (Cape Clear) “the storytellers' island”, where Irish is spoken as a first language, and there's an independent way of life.Beyond Cape Clear, the imposing Fastnet Lighthouse stands on a rock known as Ireland's tear drop – for emigrants to the new world, this was their last sight of their native land. The whole coast echoes with history – ancient sites, ruined castles, coastal forts, copper mines. Cork is proudly 'the rebel county' and it was here, at Clonakilty, that Michael Collins – 'the Big Fella' – was brought up. He died at Béal na mBláth.West Cork is both very Irish, and quite cosmopolitan – for many have 'blown-in' on the winds and stayed to make this beautiful place their home. There's a strong creative community here. Arts and crafts, storytelling and traditional music thrive – as do scores of cultural festivals.
