This double story home is in a quiet part of Kenton-on-Sea. It is within 150 meters of both the river, the lagoon and the main beaches. It has a sea view. The Kenton village is small and only really busy during the peak holiday season of December to early January. The village is described by many as 'South Africa's best kept secret'. It is configured with living and entertainment areas upstairs and 4 bedrooms downstairs. This design has optimised the views and the enjoyment of the bright, airy and warm days. Bathrooms are located both upstairs and downstairs. A hot shower located in the garden, is available to wash sandy, salty bodies that come back from the beach. Bedrooms are carpeted. Living rooms are tiled. The house has its own well-treed garden and adequate parking area. This is a modern, comfortable, big family-type holiday home, enjoyed by many international and local guests who have stayed. They have included Americans from Washington, Brits from Bristol, Swansea and London and Australians from Perth. Both the property and its environment offer a very relaxed holiday for those wanting a coastal village atmosphere. It offers excellent facilities both in the house/villa itself and in the village and on its beaches. Everything is within walking distance. This is not a “high-life” destination as the nearest big city is 150Kms away. It is for those who want to relax and enjoy quieter pursuits. The Christmas/ New Year period is ideal for young people. The rest of the year is for connoisseurs. Big-game Reserves including the ADDO Elephant Park and Sibuya game Lodge ( which is accessed by dedicated power boat from the local river slipway) and small towns are located within a radius of 30-80Kms. A very good Golf course is located in Port Alfred about 20 Kms away. There are many small very good but not sophisticated restaurants in Kenton. SERVICING: House cleaning service and laundry will be arranged locally for an extra charge, depending your requirement. (Approximate cost: 12 Pounds/day) LINEN, TOWELS & BEACH TOWELS. Are provided and included in the rental. NO OTHER COSTS - assurance. There will be no other costs associated with renting this Villa beyond the agent booking fee and those already outlined here, in terms of the actual rental quoted and servicing. All other costs – Electricity and Water etc. are included in the rental. However, if damage is done to the building, furniture or appliances by the renter or his guests, costs incurred in restoring, it will be claimed from the renter. A refundable 'damages' deposit will be required. RECREATION: The Kenton area is free of Malaria despite the fact that big game Safari parks are right on its doorstep. Other sporting and recreational opportunities are very close (if not actually in the village). They include: Bowls, Tennis, Golf, boating, fishing, hiking, beautiful beaches, swimming, surfing, birding, horse riding and a very friendly local community and club houses. Swimming is safe for small children in the lagoon at the Kenton beach. Good swimming and surfing can be enjoyed on the main beach, depending on tide conditions. The main beach has been certified as complying with the International Standard of a BLUE FLAG BEACH. This standard relates to standards of safety, water purity and beach quality. Certification has to be earned each year for each beach. This is a worthwhile assurance for visitors. MEDICAL: Doctors, Dentists, a hospital and pharmaceutical facilities are good and easily accessed in the area. RESTAURANTS, SUPPLIES AND INTERNET: There are plenty of reasonable-to-very good restaurants in the area. Groceries, fishing tackle, hardware, fuel and postal services are all easily available in the village. Internet access is available via mobile phone (G3) linkage or WiFi in the village. The house is about five minutes walk from the estuary/beach. It is large and spotlessly clean with "two of everything" ("just in case"). For me the only negative was a lack of wifi and dstv, but for someone who wants to escape the media it...More

We stayed at The Whitehouse belonging to John and Liz from the 13th October to the 19th October 2015. We are from Zambia and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. However, we missed not having DSTV. We also would have appreciated side tables and a dressing table...More

Getting around
As already mentioned, Kenton and the surrounding attractions are best accessed by car. There is little need for a car whilst in Kenton itself but to reach other facilities in the area, a car is important. Public transport is non-existent in this area.
How to get there
LOCATION. This property is located in the small village of Kenton-on-Sea, about midway between the towns of Alexandria and Port Alfred, on the R72 route from Port Elizabeth to East London. It is in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. The Kenton-on-Sea village itself stands between the Bushmans (Boesmans) and Kariega rivers. A large swimming and fishing beach joins the mouths of these two rivers across the seaward front of Kenton. Access: Kenton is usually accessed by car private or hired. A few shuttle services offer return transit services from Port Elizabeth Airport.
