Interaction with guestsIan and Janet Kelly have run Birch Hill Farm – an award-winning 5-van caravan site for 21 years: voted ‘Best Small Site’ in the UK for 3 years running, and named as the Caravan Club ‘CL of the Year’, with prize awarded in the House of Commons. We diversified in 2019 to add luxury glamping pods – away from the caravans – yet still enjoying the same panoramic views that our regular guests return to share year after year. We live in the farmhouse - a short walk from the glamping pods, and we are usually available to assist if you need any local advice or holiday ideas. There is more information on our website.

Great stays
Stayed here twice now, once in the rainbow view pod and once in the Cheshire view pod. Both times with my partner and dog. We have been made to feel extremely comfortable and welcome by the host. They have gone above and beyond to help us with requests and to give us plenty of tailored recommendations. There are plenty of places to walk to dog and even more places that are dog friendly, all that we have tried have served great food too. The pods are spacious, warm and have everything that you need. Wet or dry, this is a great place to get away to for a few days. The pods we stayed in are also able to be fenced off so the whole area is fully dog secure We will certainly be back a third time and more as we really do love it here and there is tons to do in near area.

Birthday Glamp
Absolutely stunning area. Me, my husband and dog came for 4 nights here and loved every minute. The pods are spacious and most things are provided but not bedding and towels. We had a fridge, microwave and tea and coffee facilities, along with a double bed. Outside we has a fire/bbq, plenty of fire wood and a table and chairs. The view is breath taking and my dog loved the dingle and the visits from the owners dog. We was 5minutes drive from the town centre that has shops, pubs and restaurants. There's also a sculpture trail that starts at the far left boating lake away from the boat house restaurant. Also if your a national trust member then there's 2 national trust houses/Castles within 20 minutes drive. Erddig (1200 acre parkland and statley home) and Chirk Castle. I really enjoyed celebrating my birthday in Ellesmere and I certainly will recommend you to everyone 😊

Serenity with a view
The pod, is incredibly clean, very new with all the amenities needed. The shower is just divine, it was very warm too even without the use of the underfloor heating. The location is just made for relaxation, peaceful, you can sit in your private picnic space and watch the fields as far as your eyes can see. There is also a fire pit to barbeque or sit out in the night. Lots of walks around this area of beauty, get boots and pack lunch. Lastly but never the least Ian and Janet make the experience, they are warm, very informative and generous host. I am planning my next trip worth every penny. Thank you Janet and Ian

Glamping in Ellesmere
Thoroughly enjoyable experience We were greeted on arrival by welcomed by Janet Hygiene levels are to a high standard Pods were warm and comfortable Fire pit provided with plenty of fire wood for 2 nights and fire lighter Due to COVID regs we had to provide own bedding and towels but that was no bother All other necessities provided Tourist information provided of the area Plenty of guided woodland walks for dog owners and owners are pet friendly to well behaved dogs as are the visitors to the site The town of Whittington is well worth a visit especially the castle and surrounding area food fares Oswestry and surrounding areas Local Tesco Would definitely book again Easy directions using what three words app and the site has its own app you are able to download to your front page on mobile with lots of helpful information regarding your stay Peaceful surroundings and interests for all ages. If I were to offer a recommendation it would be to add a toaster to the pod. That’s all. Would highly recommend!

A great place to stay
We had a lovely time in the glamping pods. We were so impressed with the amount of space inside, they weren’t tight for space at all for 2 (tall) adults! The arrival was smooth and quick, with precautions taken for the COVID. On the whole, the cleaning was good. We visited Hawkstone park follies and Shrewsbury during our stay. The underfloor heating was quick and really effective. The shower was absolutely great, very warm and powerful. We were even greeted with wine and milk! We would definitely recommend this place to stay - something a little bit different but still very luxury.

Amazing camping pod, clean, child friendly and lovely views.
We had an amazing stay! The owners were warm and friendly, they had great knowledge of local attractions and made some great recommendations of places to visit and eat. The camping pod had everything we needed and was immaculately clean. All measures had been taken to be Covid secure, which helped us to relax into a welcome break. The views were loveky and the outdoor seating very comfortable. Our four year old enjoyed exploring "The Dingle' on site and collecting sticks for marshmallow toasting on the fire pit. Honey the extremely friendly owners dog joined us and our daughter loved the company !

Fantastic
This is a lovely place to stay if you need to get away and relax. The owners are friendly and helpful. The surroundings are beautiful and the accommodation is spotless. Everything is there for you. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed a walk to Ellesmere lake. Stopping off at the Red lion pub for a bite to eat the food was lovely. We returned home well rested and would definitely book again.

Wonderful getaway to break lockdown fatigue
We spent a weekend in one of the brand new glamping pods at Archer’s Meadow, Birchhill Farm in Ellesmere. The pod was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The hosts were extremely helpful and mindful of the safety guidelines. For this reason we were asked to bring our own bedding and towels, but this was for our own safety. The surrounding area is very pretty with walking routes, The Mere, and the charming town of Ellesmere to explore. The gardens and public areas are kept quite natural to encourage wildlife, so we enjoyed spotting butterflies and bees, etc on our walks. Highly recommended for a short break to blow away the cobwebs!

About the neighbourhood
Archers' Meadow at Birch Hill Farm is a quiet hideaway in the heart of England, open summer and winter, with pleasant panoramic views across a wide expanse of green gently rolling hills. Ellesmere is a friendly quiet lakeside town that dates back to Saxon times. Ellesmere has car parks, shops, banks, pubs, restaurants, cafés, tea shops and a launderette. A good base for a short stay or longer holiday: we are just 2 miles from North Wales and within 20 minutes to about an hour you could be at one of four UNESCO World Heritage Sites or numerous castles, historic houses and National Trust properties. Our lane is on one of the main Land’s End to John o’Groats cycle routes and Ellesmere is a lovely spot for country walks and bird-watching.
Getting around
We are one mile from town and a 20 minute drive from the nearest railway station at Gobowen. Being realistic, a car is the easiest way to get here. Once you have arrived, there are plenty of footpaths and quiet country lanes for cycling.

How to get there
Set in green rolling countryside, Birch Hill farmhouse is 1 mile North of Ellesmere in North Shropshire, just 2 miles from the North Wales border. For ease of access, please ensure that you enter our lane from the A528. Satellite Navigation For programming Satellite Navigation (SatNav), the Birch Hill Farm lane entrance is at: Postcode SY12 0LP or use the following GPS map co-ordinates: Grid Reference SJ 397365 Latitude 52:55:20N (52.9222), Longitude 2:54:09W (-2.9025) Google Maps show our lane being called ‘Ellesmere Lane’ (see map below), but this seems to be a ‘Google-ism’ – the lane is un-signed and local residents are not aware that Google has named it ‘Ellesmere Lane’. If you ask locals for directions, please make sure that you ask for Birch Hill, not Birch Hall – both are farmhouses but on opposite sides of Ellesmere. Our drive-way is more-or-less opposite a better-known farm called ‘Seven Sisters’ – many locals will have heard of ‘Seven Sisters’ (we just mention this in case you need to ask for directions – please note that Seven Sisters does not have a sign showing the farm name). On most SatNav systems, our postcode is centred on Seven Sisters. Address and postcode Mr & Mrs I G Kelly Birch Hill Farm The Cross Ellesmere SY12 0LP England We have a long farm drive - there is a turning circle by the farm house. There is free car parking on site.
