We're small. We don't have staff, hot tubs or saunas, gyms or pools. We're in a part of Wales often overlooked in favour of its more well-known and glamorous neighbours Pembrokeshire to the south and Snowdonia to the north. We're all about slow, simple, sustainable living. We're an escape from the constant pinging of arriving emails and social media updates demanding your attention. We're a place to be part of rural Wales not simply looking in on it from outside. We want our guests to discover and love wild Ceredigion in the same way we do, not as a visitor but as a local, so they will tell others and come back time and again.

The outbuildings and acres of Banceithin were unloved for many years. Out of the mess we've created a home, two environmentally friendly holiday cottages, a wildlife haven and thriving smallholding, just a 20 minute drive from the pretty Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron in Ceredigion.
Hen Ffermdy cottage was an old farmhouse built in the early 1800's. This spacious detached two person cottage is also environmentally friendly, the winner of a Green Tourism Gold Award.
A contemporary fitted kitchen has all the mod-cons, but reclaimed furniture not found in any catalogue or department store give it a character all its own. You can step back in time and enjoy the sound of old vinyl records on the 1950's radiogram. A wood burning stove, vintage Welsh wool blanket and hot water bottle in cute hand made “Barn Owl” cover keep you extra toasty on winter nights. You don't even need to go out for provisions as organic vegetables, fruit, milk and bread, and a selection of Welsh cheeses, can be ordered and will be in your cottage ready and waiting for your arrival.
There is no mobile coverage, but the cottage has a private wi-fi network and a signal for most networks can be picked up a few minutes walk up the lane.
The cottage has its own private garden and patio where you can enjoy a glass of wine, watching the red kites soaring above while barbecuing local mackerel for tea or maybe big fat sausages made by us from our own free range pork. But our home is your home, so wander the smallholding, swing in the treehouse hammock by the stream, chat to the free ranging chickens, meet the sheep and pigs, take your book for a peaceful read in the corner of our grassland with just the birds for company.

Thank you to you both. Lovely reviews like this make everything we do even more worthwhile. Looking forward to seeing you again in May!
To put it simply, Banceithin is a wonderful little place. My girlfriend and I spent a weekend there in the hen ffermdy cottage for her 21st birthday and we immediately fell in love with it. Quaint, homely and personal, the cottage is a beautiful blend...More

About the neighbourhood
There's plenty to do outside our gate: spend the days walking the remote hills following the footsteps of Welsh drovers and miners; paraglide off Pumlumon mountain; tee off by the sea at Cardigan Golf Club; enjoy a long beach walk and picnic in the dunes at Ynys-las; get out on the Cardigan Bay sea to dolphin spot in a kayak or on a boat; meet the Welsh farming community at the local real ale pub or for something more cosmopolitan try the Harbourmaster, Summer Grill or Hive in Aberaeron; shop for local produce at markets in Cardigan, Aberystwyth and Aberaeron; visit studios of local artists Moriath Glass & Helen Elliott; treat yourself to vintage Welsh wool blankets & clothes from Jane Beck's Ty Zinc shop; step back in time at Cilgerran.
Getting around
Access to the cottage is along a single track country lane. There is very limited public transport in this rural location, so a car is recommended. There are car hire facilities in Aberystwyth.
