Excellent self catering apartment for exploring beautiful Bemuda
Outstanding features of this apartment were the host/owner Scott, and the location. First class service from Scott - friendly, informative and couldn't be more helpful. He responded promptly to e-mails. He organised taxis for us from and to the airport. He gave us a lift into Hamilton on our first day to bike hire location. He had numerous tips and advice regarding places to visit and shop from. He made us feel most welcome. He struck us as being really proud of his home island, and keen to make our holiday special. He has a few apartments. Ours was no. 4, and had the most wonderful views looking West towards the lighthouse across Hamilton bay and North towards the Dockyard. The apartment was more spacious than the pictures. It was tidy and functional. We felt the apartments would be even more impressive with some simple redecorating and basic equipment upgrades. Scott has kayaks a 2 minute walk down at a jetty available for free use. We made use of these a few times - crystal clear waters around the small islands spotting the sea turtles. The apartments are a 10 minute cycle from Hamilton centre. We hired ours at Smatt's at the Hamilton Princess Hotel. Around £15 per day per bike. There are no continuous pavements from Hamilton to the apartments and although walkable I suspect most would prefer a bike/scooter/twizzy (electric 4 wheel vehicle at around £75 per day)/taxi (£7.50). It is fairly hilly around the apartments so perhaps not great for someone with significant mobility issues. One of the reasons we visited was to watch the international triathlon. This was a great event and well hosted. This was our first visit to Bermuda and we would definitely return. Everyone was friendly. We felt very safe and travelled by bike and used the ferry system to visit places such as the Dockyard and St. Georges. The ferries are very reasonable costing £2-4 each way depending on the route. Buy tokens at the main ferry terminals in Hamilton or Dockyard rather on the boat - it is cheaper. The Dockyard is very interesting though busy with the cruise ships docking there. We cycled the old railway line trails - one from Hamilton to the Dockyard and the other from North Hamilton to St Georges. Each took 1-2 hrs and a great way to see the island. The North route was especially scenic. Note the trails are not continuous and you need to join the main roads at times, and there is a bit of bike lifting to do as the trails are sectioned with low level barriers. to help prevent motor scooters from using them. We found restaurants and supermarkets expensive. So be warned. Typically restaurants were at least 30% - 50% more than the equivalent in the UK. Restaurant bills come with 17% service/tip automatically added so no need to tip more unless exceptional service. Some food stuffs in supermarkets were even 3 times as expensive as in the UK! However, many things are on a reasonable par with the UK with care and diligence. Weather end April/early May was fantastic - 23 C by day, 17 C at night, one rainy day, one overcast day, others days calm, sunny. We travelled BA from Gatwick. Pleasant flights. Small airport in Bermuda - no hassle at all. Highly recommended.

Apt with a View
Our stay at Dalvay apt was excellent. Scott our host was The greatest host I have ever had and I stay all over the world. We kayaked several days. Rented a scooter and tour the island all 22 miles of it. The apt is very well equipped with everything you need and if you needed something that wasn’t there Scott I’m sure would come up with it, as he did for us. I would highly recommend this apt. He arranged for a taxi to take us from the airport to his place which was very convenient. I couldn’t ask for a better stay.

Our stay at the Dalvay unit of The awesome view apartments exceeded our expectations.
Our stay in the Dalvay unit of awesome view apartments in March, 2018, was such a delightful experience. Our Host, Scott, was so gracious and helpful with logistics and advice about restaurants and navigating the island. He arranged airport pickup and additionally offered to drop us off more than once when on his way to run errands. The view is “awesome” from our unit even in inclimate weather with dramatic skies and stunning sunsets. The apartment is comfortable, homey, relaxing, spacious and remarkably close to a small grocer and to downtown Hamilton on foot. We enjoyed walking in the residential neighborhood and admired the plants and landscaping. Do find your way to Miles Market downtown if you enjoy preparing your own gourmet meal. Ask at the bus terminal for the book of passes that include access to the ferries. That is the most economical and convenient way to go. What a happy island with warm, friendly people. Indeed, we felt like we were visiting an uncle that we had not seen in a long while. Scott was always there. He even provided a cell phone for local and emergency use during our stay. In addition, Scott pointed out that each room is provided with an emergency first aid kit that happily we did not need to use. He has thought of everything. It is a little piece of paradise. Thank you Scott for sharing your home. We shall return.

Home away from home, and the view really is awesome
We rented Scott’s “Dalvay” apartment in late April. "Awesome" is the only word for the view from the French doors and balcony: a 270 degree view of the Great Sound and Fairyland that we will treasure in our memories. Applies to the host too. The Dalvay apartment is perfect for two — a home away from home. Very nice full kitchen, comfortable bed with the awesome view, and a sitting room between. Two TVs with cable and one DVD player with a selection of DVD movies. Shower/bath. Coffee, filters, salt, pepper, towels. Collection of books including local guides. North American 110v electrical outlets. Fan and air conditioning. Easy taxi ride from the airport. Scott is a terrific host. He has been in the business for years in his family home and knows all the ins and outs for his guests. He has the routine down pat, setting us up for a great stay. There is no handy bus stop. We walked the 35 minutes or took a taxi from the house to the bus depot in Hamilton, and then took the right bus from there to everywhere on the island. Taxis are fast, easy and friendly. Walking through the windy, flowered Point Shares streets is a treat. We did not stress over scooters: taxis and buses are handy and cheaper in the longer run, and far safer. Groceries: Miles is for expensive fancy largely prepared foods, but we preferred the less expensive grocery stores with better selections of fresh/frozen foods to cook with. We shopped at the end of the day at The Market a block from the bus depot and then walked a couple of blocks to the taxi stand beside City hall to get "home". Scott's kayaks are stable and easy to use. Don’t say “hi”, say a leisurely “good morning” or “good afternoon”. People are incredibly friendly and helpful in Bermuda.
