Peaceful and relaxing
Highlands Cottage had everything we needed, especially the most comfortable bed! The location is very peaceful, with delightful walks from the doorstep. We spent a very enjoyable and relaxing week cycling along the many local trails and quiet country lanes. It was a nice surprise to find home baked bread and new laid eggs waiting for us when we arrived. Louise is the ideal host - helpful and cheerful, but never intrusive.

Comfortable cottage in a lovely setting
We returned for our fourth stay at this well appointed and cosy cottage in a beautiful setting and loved every moment. Louise and Rob are so welcoming and we enjoyed Louise’s homemade bread, apple juice and eggs from their small holding. There are lovely walks from the doorstep but it is also within reach of the Brecon Beacons (sugar loaf, table mountain) and Monmouth. We had a fun canoe trip on the river Wye. It was perfectly comfortable for a family of 4 with two small children, who loved roaming the orchard, playing on the rope swing and a tractor ride with Rob! Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Lovely cosy cottage with great views
We had a lovely, relaxing stay at this cosy cottage. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming, giving us great local tips. Beautiful countryside walks in all directions. The terrace is wonderful - we were lucky to have breakfast in the sun on 2 occasions and enjoyed an evening outside with the firepit, even in November! Would happily return again.

Perfect for woodland walks from the doorstep
Our hosts were friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome while still giving us plenty of privacy. The fresh homemade bread and delicious apple juice, which was pressed on the day we arrived, were lovely. The cottage was cosy, clean and well equipped, with the bed being particularly comfortable! Lovely views can be seen across the valley, looking over the orchard, while enjoying a drink on the patio. There are many delightful walks on the doorstep, but it was also a great base for exploring further afield.

Beautiful cottage in idyllic surroundings!
This is the second time we have stayed and we would happily stay again. It’s such a lovely location with outstanding countryside on the doorstep, and the hosts are friendly and welcoming. Kids love the rope swing especially, and we liked the peace and quite. Would recommend it to anyone.

3 month stay
Have stayed with Louise and Rob at the cottage since February whilst we waited to complete On a house purchase. It’s been a lovely place to rest and relax whilst watching nature come alive again around us. We’ve seen the apple trees flower and the bluebells in the local woods are gorgeous. As hosts they are great there when you need them but never if you don’t. It feels wonderfully remote but also you are only fifteen minutes from Monmouth or Tintern. We’ve had a really lovely comfortable stay and can’t recommend enough.

Fabulous stay in beautiful surroundings
Last year, I stayed for a few days in Louise and Rob’s wonderful Orchard Wagon. It was so lovely, I decided to return for a few days last week to the beautiful heart of Monmouthshire, this time to stay with family in Louise & Rob’s warm and well-equipped Cottage, alongside my sister and brother-in-law who slept under canvas on the campsite. We all very quickly relaxed and had the best time ever. A couple of us were even brave enough to indulge in a little wild swimming in the River Monnow next to the beautiful medieval castle at Skenfrith, where the adventurous can actually swim from Wales to England, if such an excursion should ever take their fancy. We were a little chilly after our cold-water dip, but soon warmed up nicely after spending ten minutes around the cottage’s blazing fire pit back home at Highlands. We had such a great time, we are already talking about a return trip at Easter next year, possibly with some additional family members, when the orchard will hopefully be in full blossom. I honestly can’t wait. Louise and Rob are such warm and welcoming hosts. Anybody thinking about spending some quality time in Wales can do no better than book a an enjoyable and relaxing stay at Highlands.

Brilliant
Camped in adjoining field while other family members stayed at the Cottage. Could easily have spent the whole time relaxing and exploring nearby on foot, but there are plenty of pubs, rivers and towns to explore within a short drive. Don't forget your binoculars if you have them, as the dark skies are amazing. Louise and family could not have been more welcoming and helpful. No doubt we'll be back.

Comfortable cottage in a quiet, peaceful location. Well equiped. Only thing missing is a freezer which is mentioned in amenities. Owners are friendly and helpful but not intrusive. All in all a lovely stay.

How to get there
From Bristol area:- Come over the old Severn Bridge M48, come off immediately after the bridge and turn right signed Chepstow. Straight over next roundabout, straight through traffic lights and straight over next roundabout signed A466 to Tintern and Monmouth (you will see entrance to Chepstow Racecourse facing you to the right) Follow the A466 for about a mile (wide road) and as approach village of St Arvans and sharp right bend, turn left on the bend up a small road (just after a pub and horse saddlery place on left). Follow this road for about 15 minutes passing through Devauden, Llanishen and Trellech. About a mile after Trellech, at a left-hand bend you’ll see a large sign showing Whitebrook and The Narth – turn right there and then straight on at a small crossroads and then next left. As you turn you will see a red telephone box (now housing a defibrilator), carry on up the hill and we are the 2nd house on the left. The cottage entrance is just up the lane next left through a wooden 5-bar gate. Drive in, holiday cottage facing you. Alternatively after passing Chepstow Race Course, stay on the A466 through Tintern and Llandogo. A couple of miles past Llandogo the road crosses the river at Bigsweir Bridge (with traffic lights). Turn left from the A road (actually straight on) just before the bridge. Follow a narrow winding road for 3 or 4 miles through Whitebrook and at the top of the hill turn right at a red telephone box (now housing a defibrilator). Carry on up the hill and again the cottage entrance is through a wooden 5-bar gate on left. This route not suitable for caravans or motorhomes. From Monmouth:- Take the B4293 signpost Trellech. Bear left at a fork in the road still signpost Trellech. Follow the road for about 4.5 miles climbing around hairpin bends. After the road levels out there is a large sign showing Whitebrook and The Narth – turn left there and then straight on at a small crossroads and then next left. As you turn you will see a red telephone box, carry on up the hill and we are the 2nd house on the left. The cottage entrance is just up the lane next left through a wooden 5-bar gate. Drive in, holiday cottage facing you.
