This luxury 2 bedroom fisherman's cottage is a stone's throw from a small, secluded sandy beach, a short walk from a larger sandy beach and within easy walking distance of the harbour. With a kitchen diner, a cosy living room with a gas log burner, it's a perfect location for a summer break or for cosy winter breaks, suitable for families and couples. Findochty (locally pronounced Finechty) oozes character. Wander around the higgly piggledy narrow streets with the many multi-coloured houses to appreciate the real charm of this traditional Scottish village. We love Findochty, we think you will too. NB. Please note due to the quirky nature of the cottage it has a narrow staircase and no toilet facilities upstairs. It is not suitable to people with mobility issues.

Lovely home away from home
We had a wonderful stay at Findochty Holiday Cottage. The location is picture-perfect, the cottage is clean, cozy, and comfortable and has everything you need to feel right at home. It was very convenient to be able to do laundry at the cottage and the kitchen was well equipped for preparing our own meals. The grocery items provided at arrival were very thoughtful and appreciated. We enjoyed the location and the beautiful coastal trail system on which you can walk between Findochty and the other villages in the area (Portknockie, Cullen, Portessie, Buckie). From the cottage, you can easily drive to many of the distilleries in the Speyside region. Balvenie distillery (my favourite!) was about a 40 minute drive from the cottage, Glenfarclas (my other favourite!) was about a 45 minute drive. Many others are closer. *Note: if you are driving and want to partake of whisky tastings, some distilleries offer a kit with small bottles for you to put your samples in, other distilleries (most) require that you bring your own bottles. We found a handy kit of 6 small bottles at the Gordon & MacPhail store in Elgin.* My husband was driving, so we routinely bottled up his whisky samples to enjoy later that evening. In addition to distilleries, of which there are obviously many, you can reach Cairngorm National Park in about an hour. The Cairngorm Reindeer herd hill walk was a lot of fun and there are tons of hiking trails in the park too. There are plenty of castles, cathedrals, breweries and other things to keep you busy in the area around Findochty (pronounced: Finechty) too - Windswept Brewery in nearby Lossiemouth is great - and the nearby towns are also nice to visit. Would definitely recommend Findochty Holiday Cottage as a home-base for anyone visiting the area and we really hope to make it back again soon! Thanks to Clare as well for responding to my emails so quickly and for the helpful tips and recommendations! :-)

Hi Sherill, Thanks for taking the time to write us such a lovely review! We're glad you enjoyed your stay and got to see and do so much whilst you were here. Your distillery tips are great! Hopefully you'll get to come back and visit us again sometime in the future - there are many more distilleries to visit and of course the dolphins to see! Thanks again, Clare and Steve

Wonderful
I cannot fault this place at all. Beautiful cottage. Gorgeous location. Everything you could need there. Fabulous owners who were very attentive to detail. Nothing not to like. Took the dogs and kids to be near family over Christmas. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Loved it.

A wonderful little cottage in a beautiful village
The cottage has everything you'll need. And very cosy on a stormy evening. The owners were extremely helpful too. If you're heading to the north east, I would highly recommend booking this cute little cottage.

Ideal Getaway
The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed for a week away from the rat race. The owners left a welcome pack of milk, bread, eggs etc and a bottle of wine! Findochty is a good base for visiting the North Sea coast of Moray. Fraserburgh, Macduff and its Marine Museum, Fort George and Elgin were just a few of the places we visited. We are already booked for next year to see more of this beautiful part of Scotland.

Beautiful Cottage
We are just back from a weeks stay at this beautiful cottage, it really had everything you could possibly need. It's right beside the beach too which my children absolutely loved. We were at the beach every day, we went swimming in Buckie, we went to Cullen for ice cream, we went into Elgin for the day, we visited Spynie Palace & Cooper Park, we tried the massive pancakes at Baxters of Fochabers, couldn't manage the whole thing,it's huge. Even when the weather wasn't great it was still lovely being in the cottage, Clare & Steve have board games & loads of dvds to watch. We had an amazing family holiday & we hope to come to visit again. Thanks x

About the neighbourhood
Findochty is a picturesque fishing village dating back to as early as the 1400's. It used to be a busy fishing port, but the harbour is now home to leisure boats and used for pleasure. The village has an excellent pub serving meals, a convenience store, chemist and post office. The nearby villages of Portknockie and Cullen are well worth a visit; Portknockie for its rugged coastline and stunning Bow Fiddle Rock and Cullen for its superb beach, unique shops and ice cream - people come from miles around for a Cullen ice cream! Buckie is the nearest town, with all the usual amenities - super markets, petrol station etc. There is also a working harbour.
