The Blue Ball is a traditional village inn celebrating its 250th birthday. Just a mile from the historic heart of Cambridge, it overlooks Grantchester Meadows, with views over to the college roof tops. The pub was purchased 2 years ago by its new owners, and has been fully renovated whilst retaining its charm and character. The rooms have been furnished with a contemporary feel, with brand new bathrooms and all modern comforts, whilst downstairs the Inn has open fires and a unique and some what quirky charm. There is a sun trap beer garden at the rear, and seating at the front to take advantage of the views across the famous meadows. The pub starred as the pub used in series 3 of Grantchester , the ITV series starring James Norton....The Blue Ball is a traditional village inn celebrating its 250th birthday. The Blue Ball exceeded all our expectations! Perfect location - and a lovely traditional pub downstairs, comfortable (and brand new) rooms upstairs. Great hospitality from owners and locals alike. I recommend the full English in the morning. Can't beat that breakfast... We will be back!

About the neighbourhood
Grantchester is a world famous village, mentioned both in the Doomsday Book and The Canterbury Tales, as well as by Pink Floyd as they all lived locally. Rupert Brooke wrote his famous poem whilst living in the village, and today the village still boasts the highest percentage per capita of Nobel Prize winners in the world, perhaps due to its close proximity ( just over a mile away) of Cambridge and its colleges. More recently its has been the star of Grantchester , the TV series starring James Norton.
Getting around
The best way to enjoy the village and the meadows is on foot, the pub looks out over the famous Grantchester Meadows. A short bike ride into the city centre, a 20 minute walk or even come out by punt on the river.
