Interaction with guestsMy wife and I reside on premises so at least one of us is on hand at all times. We also have 2 helpers who can assist you if needed or can contact us in the event we are off-site. My wife also conducts cooking classes onsite but those do not interfere with our guest at all. We have made some really good friends with some of our guest but at the same time we are not intrusive of you private life unless you decide to include us by asking us in. We only enter your apartment with notice once a week, if your stay is a long one, to clean and change linens; also when guest are not there too close windows in wind/rain storms. We also have a 3 month old English Bulldog by the name of Bella who is up-to-date with her vaccines. She is not a barker

We stayed at Aldama 205 for an enchanted month. Its strikingly exterior is matched by the grace of the interior courtyard garden and roof garden rimmed by succulents, where we spent a great deal of time watching the mountains, the changing sky, and waiting for hummingbird visits. Our apartment, one of two, was/is pretty, and studded with traditional Oaxacan folk art. Our host,William, is a talented photographer, and his photos are also represented in the apartments. We wished for even more! Skylights provide great light in the bedroom and bathroom ~ the latter being the best we've had in Oaxaca on our travels, due to the nice design and shower's great water pressure. The roomy bedroom has a very comfortable bed with a gorgeous metalwork headboard. Thoughtful storage elements occur throughout the apartment, including side tables in the bedroom, made it easy to move in and feel at home. Jalatlaco was a great place to base our explorations from, and very easy to get to the Centro area or anywhere else. Restaurants and cafes abound, a lavanderia is on the next block, and Mercado de Merced, a great traditional market, is a few blocks away. William and Nora were both welcoming, responsive and helpful, and a cooking class with Nora should be on the "must do" list: informative, fun, fascinating, and delicious. Lovely in every way. Can't wait to return. BF

William and Nora were very accommodating hosts. The apartment was well equipped for a very pleasant stay. They made knowledgeable recommendations for local activities and restaurants. Nora is a certified guide. She took me and a small group on two local village tours. She has superb knowledge of the various vendors as well as Oaxaca history. She is also an exceptional cook who offers classes in her attractive, well-equipped kitchen. The neighborhood is quiet and close to El Llano park, my favorite location in the city.

Stayed here the last week of July and can't wait to come back! My three travel companions and I rented both apartments, which accommodated two guests apiece perfectly. The bathrooms were great (hot water, good water pressure), the beds were comfortable and with living rooms/kitchen provided plenty of space. The terrace was the perfect place to sit and relax. We were within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the zocalo. William and Nora were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. Thank you!

The Lily was perfect for our one week stay in Oaxaca! It is a charming, spotlessly clean one bedroom apartment with all the preferred amenities plus an aesthetic approach reflecting the colour and culture of Mexico. We loved it and will hopefully return. The location, too, was ideal as we were able, after morning coffee on the rooftop terrace, to walk everywhere in the central downtown....enjoy the galleries, the zocalo, the restaurants etc. and later in the evening walk safely 'home' to the apartment. Thanks to William, our host, for taking such great care of us!

There's really no better place to stay in Oaxaca. I felt so welcomed by William and Nora even before I arrived on a rainy night after dark to William opening the door, umbrella in hand. It was so lovely to have a comfortable, quiet, and hospitable home to return to no matter what I was up to around town and the region. It's hard to summarize because I could go on and on but waking up and enjoying the sunrise over the mountains from the terrace with a french press coffee was probably the most centering and wonderful way to start the day. Wiliam has created such a lovely space on the roof with many beautiful plants. Every detail of the place is homey, wonderful, and connected to the typical arts and crafts and decor of the region. Oaxaca itself is an amazing place to visit. The apartment is located near enough to easily get anywhere in the central city (5-20 min walk pending on where you're headed, or even shorter cheap taxi ride) and yet far enough away from the bustle of the zocalo and other barrios that it feels like a calm and quiet neighborhood. William and Nora are great hosts if you want help figuring out what's nearby (pharmacies, parks, the best local foods, the neighborhood market, etc) and Nora is an official guide and runs a cooking school out of their home so she can tell you what she's offering when you're there. I took a tour to the Sunday Market in Tlacolula which was wonderful! and a cooking class. What a great way to get steeped in Oaxacan culture and food. Definitely worth it. I really could go on and on but I'll leave it to you to experience, book this place now if it's available and suits your needs!

We stayed in this gorgeous apartment for five weeks in total, and loved every minute of it. The apartment itself is wonderful, the perfect size for a couple, with a fully equipped kitchen. The courtyard entryway outside the apartment is full of gorgeous plants and flowers, and the rooftop terrace is a dream. It looks out over the mountains that surround Oaxaca and we spent many blissful afternoons enjoying the loveliness up there. The location is perfect, Jalatlaco is such a gorgeous neighbourhood full of cobbled streets and wonderful brightly coloured houses. It's a really lovely walk into the Zocalo, or up to Santo Domingo, which was our favourite spot to sit and watch this amazing town go by. William could not have been more helpful, he really went above and beyond to fill us in on everything from things to see, transport options, huge amounts of information on local food and life in general, and even investigated international shipping for us when I realised how much of the gorgeous local crafts I had actually bought! William's wife Nora runs a variety of delightful market and food tours and cooking classes in their truly amazing home kitchen. In case it's not obvious, we absolutely loved the apartment and are very grateful to William and Nora for being such wonderful hosts.

I'm very happy I chose to stay here. It's exactly as advertised, reasonably priced, and it was the quietest lodging I've ever had in noisy Mexico. You won't find a better host than William-he's friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about Oaxaca. I hope to return to Oaxaca and stay here again.

We had a lovely vacation in Oaxaca and we're really comfortable for the most part in this rental. My only complaint was that we would have liked a better soda or chair to sit in. However, everything else was great. The hosts were really helpful. We did a tour with Nora which was informative and William gave us lots of good pointers.

The name of this property says it all as it is, indeed, the Best of Oaxaca, located on a quiet street but an easy (and flat) 15 minute walk to the historic central district and all the action and activities. The Merced Market is even closer and a great place to provision the fully-equipped kitchen which includes a microwave, toaster-oven and blender. Laundry service is just a block away with cheerful overnight turnaround. My sister and I spent 3 lovely weeks here in October and would definitely return on our next trip to Oaxaca, the best place in all of Mexico to find high quality craftwork. Unlike so many of Mexico’s accommodations which are dark and gloomy inside with little ventilation, these 2 apartments are super light and bright thanks to the many large windows and skylights, including in the enlarged and newly remodeled bathroom which is quite luxurious. Our host, William, was charming, delightful and very helpful with information, including a few of his favorite eating and coffee spots which soon became ours. And the amazing smells from Nora’s beautiful kitchen can work up an appetite in no time! The rooftop garden was probably our favorite place with its stunning 270° mountain views, often with clouds spilling over into the valley. Quite a nice change from flat Yucatan and Florida where we live! We loved this comfortable apartment and its location and are already looking forward to our next craft-buying trip to Oaxaca, now that we know where to stay!

Oaxaca is a beautiful city - great food and attractions. The apartment was compact, easy to live in - and the roof top deck, covered with flowering plants ! It was all fabulous - so much that we are going back in 2018. The Botanical Garden, the Zocolo, all the restaruants in Oaxaca - its a food lovers delight ! And such good art museums and fine crafts - too much to see and do in one trip. The prehistoric site Monte Alban, a short taxi ride out from the city, is more beautiful and interesting that the photos do not do show the extent of the site and it has a museum !

About the neighbourhood
We’re located in the very old colonial neighborhood by the name of Jalatlaco; one of the most traditional barrios of Oaxaca. The Nahuatl meaning of Jalatlaco is “sandy embankment”, for just one block away there used to be a large river. This river was paved over and is now a main street by the name of Republica. Jalatlaco was once known for the tanning of leather and the river played an important role in the process. Once the river dried up, so did the work. Many of the families still here did this work for generations, but sadly, no more. Jalatlaco has changed a great deal over the last 5 decades with the increase of restaurants, cafes and galleries, hotels and road improvements. It is a great place to stroll through day or night.
Getting around
The best way to get around the historic center is by foot. However, if you do need a taxi for whatever reason please let us know for we can arrange a taxi for you with at least 30 min notice for a local destination or at least 12 hrs before for a day trip. Please use only the NYC type Yellow cabs for they are the most reliable and are the ones sanctioned by the city. Buses are cheap and readily available but they do take longer but is perfect to experience the local scenery and experience.
