This is a very special place, right on the beach, amid the jungle, with nothing but the sound of wind and waves. A golfcart ride through Jurrasic Park takes you down a wooden road to the four bedroom house in which each room feels enormous and is special in it’s own way, with a unique exposure different from all the rest. The bathrooms are beautiful. There’s a large luxury tub and beautiful showers. The palapa open living space is absolutely amazing, and the chef’s kitchen is large and extremely well appointed. It immediate feels like home, but exotic and remote at the same time. There is an outdoor shower, a laser sailboat, and paddleboards for use by guests, and a large number of luxury beach chairs. You can kiteboard or windsurf right off of the beach front, and leave your gear rigged for your entire stay, with a luxury house to hang out in between sessions, a far cry from rigging gear out of the back of your car. The “locals” are fun too, coati, agouti, deer, and we think we saw a tapir. Don’t leave food out, or the fearless spider monkey family will take over your kitchen! There are beautiful jungle adventures and short walk away, and the restaurants in Playa del Carmen are simply fabulous. We highly recommend Rocha’s Jerk Chicken Jamaican restaurant, and Schnitzel Garten for homemade German food, two unexpected gems in this beautiful and vibrant Mexican town. There is a lot of live music in town, and the clubs go off (not that we went in one). Sure, you can go to an all inclusive in Cancun, or hang with the hipsters in Tulum, but you’re not going to find the beautiful chill experience you’ll enjoy at Casa Vela.
