The Anchorage is a spacious four bedroom house that we would like to offer as a self-service holiday cottage with all modern amenities. This is our family home and we would like the house to be enjoyed, inviting everyone to forge pleasant memories here as we have done over the years. The Anchorage has three double bedrooms and one single, as well as a large kitchen with dining area, a living room and front porch, and bathroom with both bath and shower. This would be ideal for families or large groups of friends looking for a relaxing holiday, but is equally suitable for those preferring to keep busy as the surrounding area hosts numerous tourist sites and activities for all ages. The Anchorage is located on the small and picturesque island of Scalpay, a small island on the East side of Harris, looking towards Skye. The island itself is roughly 4km long with a bridge to the main island of Harris and a small village at its heart. A simple local shop can be found here, as well as a fantastic cafe/restaurant which we can personally recommend as providing excellent food and a fantastic friendly service throughout the day. The cafe also provides a takeaway menu and runs special curry nights too. Scalpay also holds a lighthouse on its eastern shore, accessible via a hillwalking trail. Across the bridge to Harris, the town of Tarbert is only a ten-minute drive. The town holds several local grocery shops, restaurants and bars, as well as the very popular Harris Tweed shop. A ferry arrives here every day, sailing from Uig, Skye. Past Tarbert to the South can be found Skoon art cafe, Scarista golf course and several picturesque beaches on the Western shores. To the North, a forty-five minute drive leads to Stornoway, where there is a small cinema, two supermarkets and a ferry arriving daily from Ullapool. The islands are a very popular tourist destination as they hold several attractions such as the Callanish standing stones, numerous hillwalking routes suitable for all abilities, St Kilda day cruises and the Scalloway out-door activity centre to name only a few. The Western Isles has always been a very special holiday location for our family and we hope that it will continue to be so. Now we would like to offer others the opportunity to discover the islands for themselves.More

This house is in a great position right on the water in this tiny village. Very quiet. We even had sheep sleeping on the lawn overnight. The house is extremely spacious and the kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances and plenty of crockery, pans and cutlery if 7 people wanted to self cater. The beds were comfortable, plenty of storage space and everything immaculately clean. We do not wish to citicise as had a lovely stay but would point out that with only one loo you have to be well organised on taking it in turns in the bathroom. Also, there is private parking but reached by a narrow steep lane with limited turning space so would not be suitable for larger vehicles or anyone not confident at reversing or with an unreliable handbrake. Decor a bit dated but all nice and fresh and very homely. We thoroughly enjoyed the heritage trail to the lighthouse which is a 9 mile walk of the whole island. We ate at the harbour bistro which was delicious but rather on the pricey side. More for a treat than every day dining. That has to be booked ahead as extremely popular. The waterside is not fenced so possibly not suitable for young children. Garden room was a real asset for sitting in the warm in inclement weather.

A wonderful and generously spacious house in a beautiful location. Well presented, albeit a little dated but in good order and provides everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The location is fairly central to enable you to explore Harris and Lewis, not forgetting the Scalpay locality. Some nice local walks such as the old lighthouse. The local fishermen (Scalpay shellfish, brothers Donald and Finlay), offer the freshest seafood you can find. I personally recommend the langoustines. This was made easier by the provision of a small freezer in the house, a nice useful touch. Dog friendly. Smallish garden area but wonderful views overlooking the harbour and village with the water lapping up to the edge of the lawn just a couple of yards away during high tide. Although the garden/property boundaries are not very clearly defined. Parking near the house was relatively straightforward. The weather was kind to us, just watch out for those midgies on a still day! Lots of wildlife to see from the outside seating or the sun lounge, otters and various birds, the binoculars in the house were very useful, including watching the boats. We'll definitely be back at some point, just want to explore the other islands a bit more.

The cottage and its location was perfect. The cottage has everything you need with the added luxury of a wood burner and wifi. It was very easy to travel wherever you needed to go with lots to do and see...especially the beaches.

The house has absolutely everything you could possibly need - in abundance! It is very spacious and clean and the highlight for us was gorgeous sun porch where the sun beats in and you sit and look out onto the harbour and the water just yards from the house. A real find ; we will be back

Such a lovely house and location. Everything you could need for self catering and it feels like a real home. Everything is good quality and very clean, kids loved it and we could launch our kayaks from the garden. Parking is a little tricky but the neighbors are friendly and helpful

Had the most amazing week here. The weather wasn't brilliant but that didn't bother us. The house was so cosy and very well equipped. My mother in law loved sitting in the conservatory reading and watching the boats. And the kitchen was perfect for big family meals together. There were some stunning walks nearby. All in all we had a perfect holiday here. We will definitely return in the future.

The Anchorage Isle of Scalpay what I would call a happy house. Excellent helpful neighbour next door and an island full of pleasant people. Superb bistro practically on doorstep, seafood that one will find hard to beat anywhere. Weather not the best but that did not detract from an otherwise excellent week. No downside rain or shine as sea fishing on Island was without a doubt the best I have ever seen there.
