Holiday Rental House
Situated on the edge of the beautiful village of Alstonefield within the Peak District National Park, The Old Shippon lies behind the owners' property, with extensive views in all directions and footpaths that begin as you step out of the front gate. In its earlier life, the cottage has been both an antique shop and a barn (a 'shippon' is an old English word for a cattle barn). Dating back to the mid-19c, it's now a cosy retreat, with a log-burner to create a relaxing atmosphere. On arrival, guests are treated to a 'welcome pack' such as fresh scones, home-made jam and milk in the fridge. Some additional frozen and tinned food items are also available on an 'honesty box' basis. A basket of logs is supplied. For walkers, Milldale and the much-loved stepping stones at Dovedale are nearby...Situated on the edge of the beautiful village of Alstonefield within the Peak District National Park, The Old Shippon lies behind the owners' property, with extensive views in all directions and footpaths that begin as you step out of the front gate. Cottage was very clean and surprisingly large considering it is a one bedroom. Could easily have stayed for a week. Will use again if we return to the area.

Audrey greeted us warmly, the table was set for afternoon tea with home baking! Cosey little bolt hole for a weekend of walking and lazing in front of the log burning stove! We would highly recommend this little cottage.

About the neighbourhood
Alstonefield is a small upland village in the White Peak area of the National Park, between the valleys of the Dove and the Manifold rivers. A number of small greens give the village and its pretty stone cottages a quaint and distinctive feel. At the village centre is the popular pub and restaurant, The George, which serves high quality food and a range of real ales. St. Peter's church contains many ancient artefacts, including a Norman south door, 17th century box pews and a rare, 'double-decker' pulpit. Locally-handmade tapestry kneeling cushions brighten the pews. The village also retains its ancient Tithe Barn, behind the late 16th century rectory. Well-loved walks such as Dovedale, Monsaldale and Lathkill Dale are all close by. The cottage is located just a few hundred yards fr...
