Converted chapel
The Old Chapel, in the tiny village (pop.300) of Wing is an early 19th Century stone built Grade II listed Methodist Chapel sympathetically converted at the turn of the 21st Century to create a unique Modernist open plan house. Winner of The George Phillips Award and featured in "Living Etc." magazine upon it's conversion in 2000. Set in the rolling countryside of Rutland at the edge of a beautiful quiet conservation village overlooking the Chater Valley. You will feel immersed in nature as soon as you arrive. It's great for nature lovers, walkers and cyclists. You can reach Rutland Water on foot in one hour (car 5-20 mins depending upon which shore you seek). Red Kites, and many other varieties of birds fly overhead daily. Red Kites, and many other varieties of birds fly overhead daily. On a quiet weekday you're as likely to see a horse outside as a car, but you still have the security of being in a village with people around. It's a very safe friendly village, off the beaten track, but everything Rutland and Stamford have to offer are within easy travelling distance. !!NOT SUITABLE!! for children between mobile babies and age 8 for safety reasons. Babes in Arms and children age 8 plus welcome. It is a (still) relatively undiscovered gem, a unique and delightful place to base yourself when visiting England's smallest county. Discover Oakham have said about The Chapel: 'Had an amazing weekend stay in this beautiful property in Wing. Will definitely return and recommend'. This property is open plan design – the only internal walls being around the Bathroom! Check-in any day of the week. Check in is at 3.00pm, but may be available earlier on the day so if you're already in the area we'll let you know if it's ready early. Check out is by 10.00, but we can often offer a later checkout. This property is ENTIRELY OPEN PLAN in design – the only internal walls being around the Bathroom! Parking on unrestricted Village Road immediately outside. It has never been a problem in six years, but if it is, the owners are happy to make space available for one car on their driveway nextdoor. Award winning Architect designed conversion of a Methodist Chapel, which was a place of worship for 150 years until being converted to a home in 2000 when it featured in 'LIVING ETC. MAGAZINE'. It has been available to rent as a holiday home since late 2015. The sympathetic modern conversion retains the original features such as the double height ceiling and arched windows meaning the space is very light and airy, perfect for a relaxing break. At Ground Floor the Living / Kitchen / Dining Areas. An ‘L’ shaped sofa provides ample space for you to relax with freeview smart TV & blu-ray player to keep you entertained and a wood burning stove to add to the heat and the ambience of your stay. The Dining Area has a table and chairs to seat four comfortably. There is ample crockery, cutlery and glassware. This is only to ensure that you do not duplicate any items by bringing them from home uneccessarily to hopefully help to reduce your luggage. The Master Bedroom area has a king size bed and side boards with shelving below and reading lamps above. This area is provided with a DAB radio alarm clock and a waste bin. My friend and I loved our stay at The Chapel. The architect designed interior has wow factor, is very comfortable, has plenty of storage space and is very well equipped. Colin and Samantha were very efficient and helpful hosts and the comprehensive information folders were much appreciated. Wing is a beautiful, quiet village.

Lovely clean accommodation with everything we needed. Colin was great bringing us extra logs for the log burner, as it did get a bit cold downstairs. We had a great time and will definitely stay here again.

The Chapel is a charming combination of the old (outside) and the new (inside), providing cosy and comfortable accommodation. It is well equipped and located within walking distance of Rutland Water - ideal for the two of us as it provided plenty of opportunities for good walks and cycle rides. The mild and mostly dry weather also helped! The owners Samantha and Colin were very helpful and as everything worked perfectly, we had no reason to take them up on their kind offer to call them should we encounter any problems.

The Chapel has been decorated with imagination and care. Everything you could possibly need by way of equipment is supplied. Lots of organised folders for local amenities, places to visit etc. Rest and recuperation was needed on this visit and The Chapel is ideally situated for peace and quiet.

We had a great time, and the chapel was a real gem. We had some lovely weather just right for walking and cycling . Wing was a lovely place and we enjoyed walking round, and calling for a few drinks at the local.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short break in the Chapel. The property was very interesting to stay in, well designed, comfortable and quiet. The village of Wing is pretty and has a good pub to eat in. The wi fi and smart TV were both useful, and the ceiling fan good in the hot weather.

This was our second stay at The Chapel. We chose to return because it is a beautiful, clean, comfortable property in a lovely area and where we were made to feel very welcome. The owners Sam & Colin are great hosts, they leave you alone as much as you want but are there if you need anything. The Chapel which is light, bright and airy, has been thoughtfully set up with everything you need, the wifi is reliable and the kitchen is well equipped. The large freezer was great when The Beast from the East struck (if I had to choose where I wanted to be snowed in - the Chapel would be my place of choice!). We enjoyed the woodburner in the evenings and we were warm and comfortable throughout some very cold weather. Good quality linen and towels were plentiful. The pub at the end of the road is handy and the food is excellent. Sam & Colin provide a whole host of useful information about the area and there is plenty of accessible countryside for walking. We enjoyed walking to the Nature Reserve at Rutland Water from the house, it was great to have such good walks without having to drive anywhere. Thank you Sam & Colin for your hospitality and for making The Chapel such a great place to stay.

About the neighbourhood
Beautiful rural historic part of the English countryside. Traditionally a 'playground' for visiting royalty this ensured the preservation of the rural character of the smallest county. More recently predominantly farming , with lovely countryside perfect for walks, cycle rides and getting close to nature. R.Water is internationally famous for it's birdlife and the two beautiful nature reserves on it's shores.Ospreys are now well established here and return to the Water each year, but the number of species of birdlife now at R. Water is immense. Despite an increase in visitor numbers recently Rutland retains an Olde World charm and laid back character. Much in Little is the County motto and there is too much enjoy and explore.
Getting around
It's preferable to have a car as Wing is a small village with only a limited bus service. Many local Taxi firms available. It's possible to walk to Rutland Water, if you are fairly fit, but it is a climb to return as Wing is on a hill overlooking The Chater Valley. By car it's about 5 mins to the nearest point on Rutland Water or 20 mins or so to the opposite shore. Nearby Shaws Coaches run outings all over the UK. Trains run from Oakham, 10 mins away by road, or Kettering, which is about half an hour by road.
