Previous Reviews: My wife and I stayed at this charming house in Monsegur and loved every minute of it. The house is comfortable, stylish and very well located. The town itself is lovely and the residents charming. Every now and then you find a perfect location that at once makes you feel comfortable and secure and provides a terrific base from which to explore. This is it and we will return often. We returned to Monsegur in September 2011, just in time to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary at La Riole's super one Michelin star La Fontaine restaurant. Staying sadly only a week, visited a different market every day. MARKETS Aymet - cheese, figs, foie, sardines, shrimp and coffee on the square, Monsegur: breads, fois, tiny tomatoes, artichokes, bayonne ham, melon, pates, olives, chocolate); don't miss shopping and eating at night market too, buy stacks of foisand goose/duck pates... RESTAURANTS La Fontaine, Duras (think fois with lobster/mango sauce!); La Collonade, Monsegur: (think foie, monkfish in leek/cream sauce, blackcurrent/passionfruit sorbet); Le Tillieurs (3 doors down from house) - hearty soup, fish terrine, roast chicken with veg and salad, 3 cheeses, flan dessert and 1/2 litre of wine each for E12 each!! Full of locals and people who know.. La Terasse, Duras, people watch by the beautiful renovated Chateau Le Grand Cep(oven) - local wines and great food on 'our' square. WINE/TOURIST JAUNTS: Issigeac (lovely 12th century village, picnic on the Garonne by the church); Bergerac (heavenly Saussiacs too) & Chateau Monbazilliac; Duras - for market, lunch and we caught a string quartet concert in Chateau Duras followoed by sumptuous appy buffet, profiteroles and fireworks! St.Macaire - 14 Century church and picnic on the Garonne, ancient cafes. Garonne canal walks, visit the Rembrandt in Le Mas church. Sauterne, E650 Chateau 'Ychems but great reasonable wines too, like Filhot 2nd label of Ch.D'Y. Ste. Foy, Dordogne, river picnic, special meringues, Roman ruins. Bordeaux -rousing finish to our week in this magnificent city, dinner at the wonderful Brasserie Bordeaux - champagne, oysters, scallops, cod, salmon, cassis sorbet, cognac, stagger back to hotel.. Need I say more? My wife mysel, and another couple spent a wonderful 10 days in Monsegur,we found the house and the town everything we had hoped for and more,from wonderful markets and towns to visit just a short drive away to all the delights of Monsegur and then the Medieval house with plenty of room and facilities to provide a very comfortable and relaxing stay, in the end the highlight of our six week Europe holiday.
