I enthusiastically recommend a stay at Seal Beach Cottage. My family of four (including kids age 12 & 15) loved our four day visit over New Year’s Eve, and would certainly hope to return soon. The cottage was welcoming and cosy - with good heating and hot water - even when Mayne Island was covered with unusually heavy snow during a cold snap. The main room of kitchen, dining and living areas works really well for a group of people to interact and have fun, especially with a fire in the wood stove. It was thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed, including good beds and warm duvets. As others have noted, the cottage is set back from the beach by about 30 m but the unimpeded view from the living room is fantastic, right across the Strait of Georgia and up Howe Sound. We went for walks around Mayne, saw the beautiful Christmas lights in the Japanese Garden, played disc golf (very fun course), visited the lighthouse, enjoyed a meal at the Mayne Inn, and just thoroughly explored the island. The cottage provided a lovely warm refuge from winter, with a great space for chatter and family board games. We are eager to return in warmer weather to watch the seals and play more on the beach. One more thing… Lois was highly efficient and informative in her communications, John was very helpful, and Luna the dog is lovely.

This cabin is lovely with great amenities. Very clean and wonderful hosts. Spectacular seal beach right on property.. I counted 24 seals on morning beach walk. Close to bakery and grocery store. Stellar view and quiet.

We stayed at Seal Beach Cottage in early June, which is situated a short drive from the ferry terminal. Shops and restaurant are within a 20 minutes walk and have everything you may need. The cottage overlooks the Bay and there's always something interesting to watch. The seals are fun to watch and listen to. There's a short walking trail on the grounds leading to a point with picnic tables overlooking the most gorgeous sunsets. The cottage is well appointed and spotlessly clean. Lois is a great host and Luna ( the dog) is always welcoming and friendly. I recommend Seal Cottage as an ideal place for a quiet getaway and we came away refreshed. Would definitely like to return for another stay in the future.

As others have said this is a very special place. The seals, the nearby hiking trails, the ferries going by combine to make the cottage unique. We spent two weeks exploring Mayne Island and all of its charms - little shops, great eating spots, farms and a great local brewery. To top it off the island residents are warm and inviting. A great spot for a short or longer stay. Heartily recommend!

Our time spent at Seal Beach Cottage to celebrate our 42nd anniversary and Thanksgiving was all we had hoped for and more! Such a magical place for four beautiful days. We were thrilled with what we saw as we drove up the autumn lined driveway. The little home had clearly been a labour of love for some time with all the amenities of one’s own home. We appreciated the wood left to enjoy a fire with the wood stove – it lasted the entire 4 days! The bedroom was lovely and we had such good sleeps each night. Since we had forgotten to bring our own pillows, we were so pleased with the comfort of the pillows provided. The view each morning of the water was lovely and we enjoyed watching the ferries come and go through Active Pass. Thank you so much for all of the accessories – the shampoos and soft towels, the tray with popcorn, toffees, specialty coffees and teas! Thank you, Lois for all of the great communication during our planning stage since August and the lovely welcome beforehand and thank you when we left. Answering all of our questions and providing us with added information before and during our stay made all the difference to our time spent in your lovely home. I think we managed to see the entire island over the 4 days we were on Mayne Island. The brochures and maps that were left for us really helped us to make the most of our visit. What an interesting and diverse island, culturally speaking, physical landscape and awesome marine and wildlife. Such diversity of native plant life as well. We loved it all. We enjoyed the little shops in Montrose very much. The Envision gallery was our favourite place. Such unique work by talented artisans. The shop owner was very friendly and we enjoyed hearing how he created his paintings on recycled encyclopedia pages! In fact, so much of the beautiful work we saw was accomplished using eco-friendly materials. Well done! The Lighthouse and protected bird marine bird area at Georgina Point Heritage park was awesome!! We spent an entire afternoon enjoying this beautiful environment. The Japanese Memorial Gardens was a work of art! What a beautiful special place! We’d love to come back and see it in the spring when the trees are all in bloom and maybe at Christmas when it is all lit up which Christmas lights. Our entire time was so calm, so peaceful. This quiet and calm was one of the biggest highlights of Seal Beach. It was so refreshing to be in a place that asked of its visitors to be respectful of the solitude and sounds of nature. Thank you so very much, Lois, for the work you have put into this lovely home and environment and for helping to make our special personal moments so very memorable. We would recommend Seal Beach cottage for anyone wishing the serenity and beauty of nature. The comfort of a warm and cozy home environment will be a special surprise for all. Well worth the pennies spent. Cathy and Reg Harding Vancouver Island

Mayne Island is the perfect place to relax, and Seal Cottage makes it a comfortable and very convenient experience. The cottage is well-appointed, has comfortable beds and a good number of spaces for family to gather. Pets and humans alike enjoy the easy access to the beach and water, and the walking trails. Short walk to a nearby bakery provides for good coffee and baked goods (amazing muffins). Grocery is very well stocked. The Groove Restaurant is also within walking (very nice fine dining) distance, as well as the lovely wharf and a gallery, post office, art supplies shop, ice cream, etc. The island is fantastic for relaxing, although we did go kayaking one day.

Beautiful property and perfect, clean and cosy cottage. There was so much to do even in the winter, with the lovely beach and walking trails. We spent most of our time gazing out to the bay, watching the seals and birds. We can’t wait to stay in the spring, summer and fall. We will definitely be back.

We did not really go away from the resort because of all the wonderful activities we had close by. We had 4 generations 2-87 and everyone had a great time, kayaking and fishing close by, beach and tide pools, games and field for running around. Outdoor space for dog. Organizing 12 people was challenging, Lois and her team were very accommodating and patient with us. We used the cabin for the toddlers and senior citizen while some of us camped near by. Previously we had camped and came back because it was such a great experience. Campsites overlooking the beach and ocean. Already made booking to return next year.
