Totnes has a wealth of history behind it with its Clock Tower (East Gate) and Castle being prominent features of the town. For many people the character and feel of the town is something which is immediately noticeable.
Being the lowest bridging point of the River Dart, Totnes is also something of a route centre, having good connectivity to the major centres of the area such as Torbay, Plymouth and Exeter either by road or rail. It is also well placed for excursions to the beautiful South Hams and its coastline and the wilder beauty of Dartmoor.

Totnes is an ideal location for visiting all South Devon’s many attractions. The town has a lovely high street with many good pubs and restaurants , in particular The Steam Packet Inn. It’s also a place where you can leave your car and make use of the local transport with good bus services to Paignton, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Plymouth and other local places. A good national rail station enables you to visit Plymouth, Exeter or Torbay, or you may take the steam train northwards along the scenic Dart Valley. Maybe take a cruise down to picturesque Dartmouth. Walking too is easy, particularly to Darlington. The newly appointed bungalow is in a quiet location, 15 minutes walk into town. It was nice that the owner Ian who lives nearby makes a point of calling in to check everything is OK.

Good location and well presented accommodation
This property is in a good location with a Spar in the next road and walkable into the town centre. The accommodation was as described and clean, it was in a quiet location and there is a private back garden. The property was well equipped and comfortable. Ian was prompt in responding to queries and left a very generous welcome pack. I would have no hesitation in recommending both this property and the town of Totnes for your next holiday.

Lived up to expectations
Great place, no disappointments whatsoever. It is a quiet road and a short but pretty walk into town.
The house is the most well equipped we have ever stayed in, you could honestly live there, it has everything you could need.
Also there is a very lovely garden so we could eat breakfast outside. We had a fantastic stay.
And the owners, Ian and Jo very kindly left us wine, fruit, milk, tea bags, biscuits so we could feel at home immediately upon arriving.

About the neighbourhood
Devon is a beautiful county with South Devon and the South Hams being no exception. Totnes is situated in the midst of all of this wonderful countryside, and the town itself offers much to see and do.For its size Totnes has plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants to choose from and is well known for its unique independent shops. Much of the character and feel of the town is due,in part,to the influence of the students of Dartington College of Arts of the not-so distant past. Nearby Dartington Hall (once the home of the College) and its wonderful gardens are well worth a visit. Totnes sits at the upper limit of the tidal section of the River Dart and a variety of excursions by steam railway and river cruise are possible.
Getting around
Totnes is ideally placed as a base from which to visit the wonderful South Devon countryside, whether it be the beaches, coastline and rolling hills of the South Hams, the popular beaches of Torbay or the wilds of Dartmoor. Most of these are less than 30 minutes drive on average. Although having your own transport offers more flexibility,it is by no means essential. A number of bus services pass through the town connecting to Plymouth,Exeter, Torbay and to the south to places such as Salcombe and Dartmouth. The main rail link to the Southwest also serves the town, routing from Exeter to Plymouth and on into Cornwall.
