The Mount is a magnificent 500 year old Tudor house, reputed to have been built as Lord Guldeford's summer residence. Excellent stay at the Mount, Nr Rye Sussex
Our fourth stay at the Mount which shows how much we enjoy this beautiful old house full of history and nooks and crannies for the children to enjoy. Plenty of space for all the family; excellent amenities, including spacious gardens and an outside play room in the barn ; off street parking; easy access to Rye, surrounded by sheep and wild life, on the edge of Romney Marsh. The farm shop next door also very useful as well as the 5 electric chargers for cars. Bernie, the owner makes us very welcome. We cannot recommend the Mount enough.

Lovely house
We have just come back from a few days staying here, and despite the gale force winds outside we kept warm and had a lovely time. The kids loved hiding in the nooks and crannies and there was everything we could have possibly needed there, the kitchen was exceptionally well equipped, the bedrooms lovely and there was lots of space for our 3 families who stayed.

Amazing home for family or group
This old tudor house was well equipped and very comfortable. The hosts were great and left us some home-made shortbread. Plenty of choice of rooms for the 6 of us. Just be aware of the small twisty staircase - not so easy if you've had a few drinks or just not so fit. There is another straighter one but you have to go through one bedroom to get to others. We were so lucky with the weather but if you had to stay in there were games and 2 tvs available. The kitchen is superbly equipped and always warm with the heat from the aga - whatever time of year. Be aware of low ceilings and uneven floor boards. Really adds to the character of the place thought. The location is great - just a 10 min drive to Camber Sands beach. You could walk through the back gate and across the fields into Rye itself - approx 20 mins. The games room and bikes were a great addition. Would really recommend it for a family or group of friends.

Wonderful for family gathering
A wonderful house with plenty of features. A fantastic space to stay in when gathering the family together. I was really impressed with how well stocked it was both in the kitchen and with toys and games for the children. There is even a cupboard of beach towels. The area is fantastic and we only saw a small snapshot of it: castles, beaches, train rides, parks and shops. Noticed a lot of off road cycle paths which would be great to explore when the children were older. Entertainment at home was easy with extensive gardens (including a really enclosed space which was great with littler ones), BBQ area and a games room/play barn. Only downsides would be the hight of ceilings for some people and the nearby busy road -you could feel when lorries passed! I was not bothered by either of these things. The only reason we would not come here more frequently was the difficulties of travelling down from northern Scotland but we certainly plan to return.

Wonderful, cosy yet large retreat
The Mount is a fantastic house oozing with character and charm. It has two large lounge areas, a sun room, a large kitchen with dining table and benches & a large dining room with 12-seater table and huge inglenook fireplace. It is also peppered with log burners upstairs & downstairs and has a feeling of warmth, character and cosiness! There are 6 bedrooms upstairs with one shower room & one bathroom. Downstairs is another shower room and a gallery-style vaulted entranceway, further adding to space and charm. The garden is large & very pretty with a BBQ area and outside games room with table tennis. It’s tranquil and picturesque with sheep in the field adjacent and a stream (fenced off) to the side. There were 7 adults staying and we felt like we all had our own space and never felt on top of one another. If you need to get out there’s Rye a few mins’ drive (20 min walk) away and lovely countryside surrounding the property. There’s also a lovely farm shop & cafe next door. Bernie (the owner) was easy to contact & replied promptly. Bernie clearly thinks of the needs of those staying and provided logs, towels, everyday items such as washing up liquid, salt, peppers, loads of kitchenware, cutlery and glasses. We also tucked in to some of her delicious homemade shortbread she made for us, which was better than i’ve ever made for sure. Thanks so much. We can’t wait to return!! :-)

Memorable stay!
A perfect venue for a family celebration. Well equipped, comfortable and of course a great chance to stay in a Tudor house. Friendly, helpful owners. There's a convenient Farm Shop just next door as well. Great to be able to have all 11 of us in one house for a week. Enjoyed by all - age range 4 to 71. I would definitely recommend it.

Great family getaway
We would definitely recommend The Mount. A beautiful old building with lots of character. We had a fantastic stay with all the family. Everyone, inluding the teenagers, enjoyed it! We were a party of 10 and there was lots of space, so were never under each others feet. Even the bad weather didn't put a dampener on things. Will hopefully be going back one day...

Fabulous house
We had a wonderful weekend at The Mount for my mums 60th birthday, the house is fabulous, full of character and so spacious. The kids loved exploring all the rooms, playing in the wonderful gardens and the great play room outside. There was plenty of room outside and inside for dining for our party of 13, ranging in age from 6 months to 60. The weekend we were there was incredibly hot, thankfully the house remained lovely and cool. We made a trip to camber sands one day and walked over the fields from the house to Rye another. Bernie and Heather were great and very accommodating, very quick to reply to messages, the whole booking process was very efficient. Thank you so much.

About the neighbourhood
Hastings is synonymous with 1066 when William the Conqueror and his Norman army defeated King Harold at Battle. William built an Abbey in the picturesque town of Battle to celebrate his conquest and left a legacy of Norman Churches and Castles throughout the South East. Of particular note are the beautiful moated castles at Herstmonceaux and Bodiam. Other attractions in the area are the gorgeous gardens at Great Dixter and the intriguing follies built by Mad Jack Fuller at Brightling. Rye and Burwash are just two of the many enchanting towns and villages to explore in this part of Sussex that is so rich in history and natural charm.
