Missing whats needed to get the stars
Honesty in my opinion is the best policy. Its hard to review a property knowing that the owner may see differently, however there are two sides to a coin, so here it goes. Firstly the host is fantastic, the boiler in the intended rental had broken down prior to our stay and the host had informed us that she had moved us to another rental within the same complex. Not a problem. The host was courteous and friendly which was great. The property itself we found to be ok, however there were a few issues that could do with resolving which would make the rental more worthy of more stars. The first and foremost problem. The smell. Understandbly, the property being in Cirencester is old and I am not a plumber, but there was a significant odour that could not be masked or dissipated. From experience the smell is generally bacteria that is dying off in Drain, waste and vent systems or ventilation is inadequate to cope with the system. A dose of enzymes and a check of the Traps and vent system should sort this out, however I am not a plumber. The property is promoted as a 3 bedroom. Unless your a travelling band of little people, its not 3 bedrooms. its more like 2 bedrooms with a third in a loft so small that you could not sit up in bed. The Kitchen. I belive i am not the first person to post that the cutlery and dishware were bad. I don't think that it is the owners job to clean the dirty dishware left from the previous guest, however I do beleive that if a deposit is paid and they don't leave the kitchenware clean then they should be charged a cleaining fee. The kitchen cabinets are in need of a revamp. Once upon a time Im sure they were shiny and new. They would have looked the part Im sure, but that was a long time ago. the coffee table needs a top to disguise the chips missing out of it. mdf looks cheap when its got bits missing out of it. We were constantly trying to avoid tramping mud into the property, but because the drainage and the front was constantly wet there was nowhere to go with a bit of dirt on your shoes. Either a timber step or small timber platform would sort this out. All in all the property was ok, but it does need some work.

Thank you to the guest for such comprehensive feedback, it is appreciated. The house we moved the guest to has a different layout to the one they booked and is only advertised as a two bedroom property, so it should not be confused with this house which has three full sized bedrooms (two doubles and a room with bunk beds). Had we known they were having an issue with a smell we’d have recommended putting some bleach down the toilet in the en-suite shower room as that clears it when it occurs. The comments about the coffee table are fair and it will be replaced straight away. New cutlery, mugs and serving dishes have gone into the house today. The feedback about the the issue regarding the entrance is very useful. We will give the matter some thought as we have to make sure that it is safe as well as practical, however, in the meantime there is a big rug in front of the door with space for guests to take shoes and boots off.

A Gem of a place
I stayed here with my friends recovering from a broken leg! I found the host very amenable and the house location is excellent in the centre of Cirencester. Its only a few minutes walk into the centre of Cirencester. The house is quirky and very comfortable - I understand that the host has made some changes to reflect the style of the house and it really works. There were 6 of us and we were made to feel very welcome there. The courtyard is very peaceful with a large table and chairs for outdoors eating. There is a heated outdoor pool around the corner that is run on a charitable foundation - which is open from May - September. Its an absolute joy. What a gorgeous place to stay - thank you.

Beautiful Setting, Average Quality
This three bed house has a beautiful setting. It is very close to the vibrant heart of this beautiful town in the Cotswolds. When we arrived we learned that we had been double booked. We eventually got placed in another one of the houses in the lot that was a bit smaller. My family was kind of disappointed but the setting around the house made it up and we ended up having a great time in this scenic town that everyone should visit.

Great location but house had not been cleaned
We stayed in number 3 Battle Mews over Christmas this year and this house is really central and in a great location to walk into Cirencester but it was not clean. We had to clean the fridge on arrival and everything we took out of the cupboards had to be re-washed - all the pots had food stuck on them which had to be scrubbed off. Initially we wanted to rent number 1 Battle Mews but were convinced that we should rent number 3 as it was going to be totally renovated before our holiday - none of this happened. Cirencester is lovely and we had a great holiday but having to rewash everything before our Christmas lunch left a bit of a taste.

About the neighbourhood
Cirencester is often referred to as the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’ and was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times. In later years it became a very prosperous medieval wool town and today it still contains many interesting buildings with architectural styles spanning several centuries. The award winning Corinium Museum, which houses one of the largest collections of Romano-British antiquities, is only five minutes’ walk away from the house. A gentle stroll from the house brings you to the town centre, which has a pleasant mixture of independent and national shops. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from or if you want to stay in and cook, there are excellent independent butchers, fishmongers and delis in Cirencester and a large Waitrose within walking distance where you can stock up on provisions. Within a short drive of Cirencester there are many other attractions to visit, including: Westonbirt Arboretum which is particularly stunning in autumn; the Cotswold Water Park for a range water sports and other recreational activities; Chedworth Roman Villa; the historic wool towns of Tetbury and Stroud and the beautiful countryside of The Cotswolds with stunning scenery, ideal for walking and rambling.
Getting around
Battel Mews is only a short walk to the Market Place in the centre of town, so is very close to restaurants, shopping and bars.
