Did a great long walk all round the Langdale valleys, had a drink at the "local" 3 shires (1-2 mile walk cross country). Disused quarry was interesting Cottage very pleasant, kitchen had most things you...

This was a spontaneous booking prompted by a pop up on Facebook. Within minutes of my enquiry the weekend was booked in a very efficient manner. The directions supplied were excellent and we arrived late Friday afternoon. The cottage was presented in an excellent manner and everything was as it should be. The location was idyllic set in beautiful countryside, so...

Very remote. Up a windy lane about a mile or less from the main road. Beautiful cottage. Good kitchen layout. Main room seating good size for a rental, also easy to use tv which we have had problems with other rentals in the past. Bedrooms again a good size. When we stayed there , there was no wifi plus cold...

Management response:

I'm really glad you enjoyed the cottage and location so much that you want to come back! I was more than happy for you to stay an extra night. Sorry there was a temporary glitch in the water (storm Desmond brought more than the normal debris into the feed) also sorry Open Reach are so useless!! Hey Ho!

About the neighbourhood
Acorn Cottage is situated in the heart of the old slate mining area. A disused quarry is a short walk from the door with good rock climbing/abseiling to be had. Further mines can be explored locally - details of which can be found on our bookshelves!

Coniston is 3.5 miles by road, Elterwater is 2.75 miles by path and 7 miles by road. Ambleside is 8 miles away and Grasmere 8.5. The famous Tarn Hows is 1.75 miles by road.

We are lucky enough to have 3 very well known pubs to hand - The Drunken Duck (and its sister cafe, Chesters by the river, at Skelwith Bridge - famous for its large scones!), The Three Shires and The Britannia Inn. Coniston also has a fine selection of pubs and local ales for you to tick off your list (The Sun Inn is our favourite).
