Rockwood is a picturesque and cosy 6 bedroom holiday retreat. It is a traditionally built Lakeland Residence, built into the hillside and is situated along a very quiet country lane on the edge of the pretty village of Grasmere and at the foot of Helm Crag.

It is within easy walking distance of the village, only about half a mile away, where you will be charmed by the quaint and historic houses, the Norman Church, Dove Cottage. where William Wordsworth lived and wrote (and the Wordsworth Museum) as well as the quality restaurants and traditional Cumbrian pubs. Rockwood is also centrally located in the Lakes, so ideal for exploring this, the most beautiful of all the National Parks in England.

Rockwood Cottage is not only in one of the most beautiful places in the world, its the ideal distance from the village. Its not too far, and a lovely walk up a nice country lane to it. I'd say a 10 - 15 minute walk...More

Enjoyed our stay here, great setting, short easy walk to village and restaurants. Good comfortable, and clean. Plenty space to relax, and eat together, good facilities overall. We were party of 7 but if more people might need to be organised for bathrooms. Parking space...More

Rockwood cottage is spacious and cosy, retaining traditional features particularly the mellow pine and oak beams. The house is in two linked parts: the main house and an annexe. The main house offers a farmhouse kitchen with open plan dining area with an old stone fireplace with wood burning stove.The main lounge offers comfortable furniture to relax in after a long walk, (TV, DVD, CD) with childrens den off. Upstairs offers 4 bedrooms (3 doubles, 1 twin) and a family bathroom. The annexe offers 2 downstairs bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin) useful for older guests, as well as large lounge (TV DVD), kitchen and shower room/wc. 3 night weekend breaks are Friday to Monday; Midweek breaks are 3 nights during Monday to Friday. Weekend breaks are subject to availability only 3 months before the start date. Prices include electricity and gas for central heating, linen, professional clean before and after your stay, logs for the woodburning stove, but exclude personal towels. We welcome pets as well, but charge an additional £20 per pet per week to cover the extra costs of cleaning.

About the neighbourhood
Grasmere offers Dove Cottage (home of WW) and the Wordsworth Museum, a old Norman Church, traditional Cumbrian Sports festivals, fantastic walks in the hills, small pubs and restaurants. Within 10 miles you will find old slate mines (still working) old stately homes, Hawkshead (with nearby Hilltop - Beatrix Potters home), ancient Roman ruins, exciting activities for the kids in Grizedale Forest - so much to do and so little time!
Getting around
There is a good bus service in the Lake District. For those people who are bringing a car, there are some lovely scenic drives. There is a train service between Windermere and Kendal. There are many places to hire bicycles in the South Lakes.

Directions by Road: Proceeding from Junction 36 of the M6 Motorway, follow the A591, (in Ings Village, just by the speed camera, you will pass a great pub, the Watermill, for a late lunch stop) through the outskirts of Windermere, following the signposts towards Ambleside. (By Windermere train station, you will pass Booths Supermarket, which is the biggest and best in the Lake District, if you need to stop to buy some food). Drive through Ambleside, signposted Grasmere. As you enter Grasmere, at the roundabout by the Wordsworth Museum, turn left and follow the road through the village; it bends round to the right, by the Red Lion Hotel.
