This part of London has loads of water - canals, canal basins, old dock basins, the River Lea and of course the Thames, so there is lots of maritime history to absorb. Canary Wharf is a short walk away and has lots of bars and restaurants. We can recommend some other local eateries too. Shopping opportunities abound with the swish shops of Canary Wharf only minutes away and Stratford Westfield about 15 minutes away by train. Oxford Street is approx 30 minutes away and the trendy boutiques of Shoreditch and Hackney are within easy reach.More

Me and 4 friends stayed here for a weekend break in London near Christmas. We needed somewhere that had 5 single beds and was near a Tube station, so this was ideal. It's not easy to find an apartment in London that sleeps 5 individuals....More

About the neighbourhood
The best pub and eatery nearby is probably The Gun which is a gastro-pub that looks across the river to the O2. Walk along in the direction of Canary Wharf but turn left after the Ibis Hotel. Keep looking down streets on your left and you will see The Gun eventually. It has a beer garden and a deck. The Radisson Hotel has a nice bar. It is towards Canary Wharf but just as you get to the Ibis Hotel, turn left at the mini roundabout. There are lots of bars and restaurants at Canary Wharf. Wahaca does amazing margaritas and Roka is supposed to be very good Asian food. The Lotus Chinese restaurant is slightly off the beaten track at Canary Wharf – it’s on a boat and does nice food.
Getting around
The transport links are excellent and a few places are within walking distance. Get yourself a visitor Oyster card as this is the cheapest and easiest way to get around. There is a £5 deposit but you can get that back when you leave. It gives you discounted fares on bus, train, underground. You can travel as much as you want in a day and you will not exceed the daily maximum charge which is around £9. You can also use contactless bank cards and you get the cheapest fares and the daily cap applies. I would recommend that you download the app Citymapper (free) as it solves all your transport challenges, and tells you how much journeys cost and how long they take.
