Cottage
Situated in the Tyne Valley, Peartree Cotttage is an attractive cottage with a spiral staircase and galleried walkway on the first floor. Well equipped and fully heated, the cottage has a log stove and a high standard of furnishings. It is in a quiet situation but within just a couple of miles from the village of Corbrdige which though small, has great shops and good eating. This area of Northumberland probably has the most to offer visitors. Just 2.5miles away is the market town of Hexham with its historic Abbey, theatre, cinema, leisure centre and Waitrose. The area is superb for walking (the cottage has walking guides) and steeped in Roman history with not only the Roman Wall, but the sites of Corstopitum and Chesters within striking distance. Bowes Museum is one of the only non-metropolitan museums in the country and Alnwick Castle is home to the Harry Potter movies and the newly created Alnwick Gardens. For families there is the massive openair museum of Beamish with its tramways, coal mine and old fashioned fully functioning shops. The coast has long empyty beaches and the opportunity to take a boat to the Farne Island to see the seals and bird colonies or visit the hsitoric Holy Island and Grace Darling's lighthouse island. Just twenty miles away lies the Ciry of Newcastle with its vibrant quayside which is home to the Sage Music Centre and Baltic Art Gallery. It is also excellent for shopping and dining. To the west lies Carlisle and Lake District and the Borders are close with its historic links to Mary Queen of Scots. If you are a bird watcher or a shopper, the north east has it all and Peartree Cottage makes a perfect comfortable and relaxing starting point. More

About the neighbourhood
See Hexham Abbey is worth a visit. Parts of the church are more than 1000 years old. Historic places in Hexham include the Moot Hall and the Old Gaol, which has been converted into a museum devoted to the history of the Border regions of England and Scotland. Parts of Hadrian's Wall are within easy reach of Hexham. Sites worth visiting include Corstopitum (near Corbridge), Housesteads and Chesters. There is now a long-distance footpath along the entire length of the Wall, starting in Whitehaven and finishing in Wallsend. The Battle of Hexham levels in 1464 took place just south of the town and the site can be explored on foot Do Drop in to the Queen's Hall Arts Centre - a cool theatre, art gallery and cafe. Buy There is a highly-regarded farmer's market every second and fourth Satu...
