About the neighbourhood
The riverside area of Inverness is quiet and convenient for the town centre and the many shops and restaurants on offer. The Inverness Leisure Centre has two large swimming pools and gym facilities and is just over a mile from the house in Bught park. The river Ness is a couple of minutes walk from Rose Cottage and recent development means it is possible to walk or cycle along the banks of the river for several miles iin either direction. The Caledonian canal is also nearby and provides an alternative walking route from Dochgarroch locks where the canal joins Loch Ness to the sea at Clachnaharry. During the summer particularly the locks on the canal are busy with tourist vessels and this makes a scenic walk even more interesting.
Getting around
Even without a car Inverness is an ideal base to explore the Highlands by train and bus. It is possible to take the train north up the coast to Thurso, east to Nairn, Forres and Elgin then Aberdeen or the beautiful route southwest to Kyle of Lochalsh and Skye. Buses will take you to every corner of the Highlands. With a car it is easy to explore from Inverness and most places in the Highlands can be visited in a day trip and often in a circular route. So whether it is castles, museums, malt whisky distilleries or just the magnificent scenery that you seek they are all accessible from Rose Cottage.
