Overview
Cottage -
4 Bedrooms , 2 Bathrooms , Sleeps 7
Fort William, Lochaber, Scottish Highlands, Scotland
Coille Diobhain cottage is situated by an ancient wood of the same name, at the end of a beguiling, winding track up through the wood. The setting offers a wonderful sense of calm, with only the sounds of the trees, birds and animals to be heard. Sitting at an elevation of around 500ft, on the lower reaches of magnificent Glen Roy, there are magnificent views of some of the UK's highest peaks, including Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor with its Nevis Range ski centre, nearby to the southwest.

The location is just minutes from the village of Roy Bridge, which has a small cafe with information about the unique glacial geology of the Glen, dining options in two local hotels, and also its railway station, which provides direct links to London (sleeper service), Fort William and Glasgow. Nearby to the west is the larger settlement of Spean Bridge...

About the neighbourhood
The cottage is within Glen Roy, a National Nature Reserve, and famous for its ice age geology. It also sits on the site of the 1688 Battle of Mulroy, the last inter-clan battle fought in Scotland. The rail link to Glasgow heads into the wilderness after it leaves Roy Bridge, providing wonderful hiking opportunities from remote stations such as Carrour.

Local excursions might include a drive SW to picturesque Oban, or W by road or rail (‘Harry Potter’ steam train) to the coastal port of Mallaig and beautiful sands of Morar. NE up the Great Glen leads to mysterious Loch Ness and stunning Glen Affric; heading E along the A86 quickly leads to Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve, Laggan Wolftrax (biking/ponies) and on to Cairngorms NP.
