Probably the most interesting holiday-let house in the Hebrides, Lagavulin Hall was built in the first years of the 1900’s as a parish church. It is on the South East of Islay in an attractive sheltered position, with views across Surnaig Bay to the ruins of the 14th Century Dunyveg Castle. The building was converted into a house and remains virtually unchanged on the outside. It has been painstakingly restored and redesigned on the inside to provide a comfortable living space, which maintains the original simple style and grand scale of the interior. There are many sites of historical interest including the famous Kildalton Cross which dates from the 9th Century.More

Such a beautiful house, full of charm, character and atmosphere. Very conveniently situated on the three distillery walk within easy access to Port Ellen for the beach, groceries and the ferry. We had a lovely stay and would definitely come back to explore more of the Island.

Situated just outside port Ellen, the accommodation is on the “3 distilleries “ path. Enough parking for 2 cars, the accommodation sleeps up to 8. There were 6 of us and loads of space. The kids had the bedroom s downstairs whilst we had the bedroom with its own sitting room upstairs. A great wood burner for the evening with a dram. The accommodation cannot be faulted neither can the owner David who was a great host making sure We had everything thing we needed. We will definitely be back

Lagavulin Hall was a fantastic place for our week in Islay, it was somewhere I had fancied staying at when passing by a few years ago, and it really exceeded expectations. There is not much I can add to the previous comments other than we enjoyed our stay immensely and David was very helpful in all stages of the booking process, and also when we meet briefly in person. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone considering a stay here

Based on the south end of Islay close to laphoraig, lagavullin and ardbeg and the beaches what more could you want, nothing is to far away on Islay. The accommodation has everything you need and is comfortable as well. Well worth a visit. We have had 2 visits now, I wanted to find another area to stay at, but this place just drew me back with it charm.

Lagavulin Hall was a perfect holiday location on Islay, set between the Lagavulin and Laphroaig distilleries and no distance from Ardbeg and 2.5 miles from Port Ellen. There is a Three Distilleries Walk from Port Ellen to Ardbeg, a tarmac path that is very well maintained and well travelled. The roads are narrow so this has been an incredible investment, we saw walkers, bikers and pets going past on a very regular basis and most (adults) had distillery bags in their hands! The property itself is rustic, unique, restored very well and well maintained. The pictures on the website are accurate, but you get a far better feel for the place when you visit. There was milk, butter and bread on arrival which was great for those arriving late. We hardly used the lower area to sit apart from the dining area which has an amazing table. The seated area upstairs is bright, had a log fire and 2 comfortable couches. We had the fire on twice and with the rain pelting the velux window (Scottish summer), with the fire on it was incredibly cosy. The kitchen has everything you need, only 4 wine glasses but for our group this was fine as there were only 3 adults! We were kindly allowed to take our dog with us, the only thing I would mention, which was not an issue, just a need to know, there is no enclosed space to let your dog off a lead (if like ours, they are young and can't be trusted). There are lots of amazing walks close by and a rocky beach (where the boys launched their kayak) is litterally a stones throw, so for exercise for everyone and your pet, you won't be short of places to go. The entrance to and the exit from the Hall are tight and it's a busy road but David had done his utmost to assist with signs either side of the entrance and also a blue light that tells you of traffic approaching. It works very well but it takes time to get used to it and you need to take heed and listen on exit regardless. Our boys fished successfully (again a stone's throw) - Gus next door gave us great advice. The mackeral was delicious aided by the fact that the boys caught it. David's communiction was excellent from start to finish was excellent (apart from one minor blip when the roofers arrived 3 days early (Day 2 of holiday) and us not knowing what the scaffolding noises were at 8am! Would I recommend: ABSOLUTELY! You'll love it and you'll love Islay.

We loved our stay at Lagavulin Hall! We were seeking accommodations with personality and a sense of place; this beautifully renovated church was perfect. It has a wonderful historic feel yet it has all the comforts of home: cozy beds, great living area and well-appointed kitchen - and even a great wi-fi connection. The location is wonderful for whisky fans as it is within easy walking distance of Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg distilleries. It's a short drive to Port Ellen for groceries (you can walk it also) and there are lots of lovely places to walk. Our host, David, communicated with us every step of the way and answered all our questions very promptly. If we ever have the chance to return to Islay, we would love to stay at Lagavulin Hall again!

This was our first stay at Lagavulin Hall. For a winter get away for my 30th on Islay I could not have asked for more. The hall is secluded in my favourite part of Islay just over the road from Lagavulin distillery. The hall has the most beautiful architecture and just exudes coziness. We had everything we needed and had an amazing 7 days just curled up in front of the fire. There were just 2 of us but there was plenty of room with three big bedrooms. I can’t convey how amazing this place is, every morning deer were 10 feet out the back window just grazing around the garden. Will be going back this year for sure. On a practical note the Hall was well appointed with lots of pots, pans, cutlery and drinks ware.

About the neighbourhood
Islay is one of the most beautiful of the Hebridean islands and is famous among bird watchers and especially whiskey connoisseurs.
