About the neighbourhood
The Marais takes its name from an old marshy area occupied since the twelfth century. Today, this historic district is one of the busiest in the capital, for the heritage treasures it houses and the atmosphere it radiates. This district forms a triangle delimited by the places of the Bastille, the Republic and the Town Hall. It has many mansions of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, converted into internationally renowned museum (Picasso Museum Paris, home of Victor Hugo, Carnavalet museum ...). The visit of the Place des Vosges is the highlight of a walk in the Marais, it is a masterpiece of balance and elegance.
