His positive action, remains until the present to protect and develop the uniqueness of this place and its inhabitants. In 2006, the Greens conjured up a unique opportunity for the then tenants: the right to buy the entire house, 21 apartments. But why has only a mother with two children made use of this right and pledged to pay within 30 days a million amount that she did not have? How could she stand up to gentrification fighting bankers and lawyers with the help of filmmakers? MyBerlinStyle is this touching past and present. Reviews that spark our excitement: 'Feel the history; Love the Comfort' by Curiousnellie brought us to install a lift: 'Six of us - women 'd'un certain age'- stayed here at the beginning of this winter and were all delighted with our choice. The building itself is beautiful, redolent of end of empire flourish, while the apartment, with the gracious proportions of an earlier era is warm and welcoming. We loved the beautiful original wooden floors, the decorative plasterwork on the bedroom ceilings, the sense of space, as well as the terrific shower in a stylish, modern bathroom. Our inner homemakers thrilled to the quality and solidity of the linens and general fittings (and dreamy beds ). The kitchen is really well equipped so we did not just eat breakfast there but prepared some meals too, though there are some good restaurants close by. The main room and the bedrooms are really roomy, not even with 6 of us did it ever feel crowded. Marion , our host in Berlin, was welcoming and gave some really useful tips on eating out and things to do, and his welcome package was chosen with care - organic and delicious. The location is great! so close to Museuminsel that it makes a very comfortable stroll before a trip to the unmissable Pergamon. But if walking's not your thing then the wonderful Berlin public transport system is accessible only 2 mins away at the Kochstrasse stop. Another visit you must make is to the Jewish Museum which is also only 2 mins walk from the building. This is a great city for history and culture fans , so get booking ! you won't regret choosing this apartment as your base for your explorations. But get fit first and keep your luggage minimal; there are two flights to walk up. ' ECO LUXURY in a significant national heritage monument of the area. The building has been 2014 fully restored (new roof, elevator, balconies, windows, heating, water-, electricity- and drainage-system, bathrooms etc.). A four-room apartment with two bathrooms, organic build (floating oak floor) and fitted with products of the German market leaders for natural products: clay walls, spelt, kapok and latex pillows and 100% latex mattresses by Dormiente, towels, bed linen and curtains made from organic cotton (KBA) by Cotonea, frameless glass shower, Red Dot Design shower head Raindance by Hans Grohe, Architec sink and Stark 2 toilet and bidet by Duravit. All cleanings are made with gently dosed organic materials, no softeners, no perfumes. PRICES Free for children less than 15 years of age on departure day. Depending on the number of people, period and length of booking and other conditions the price can vary. You will need to ask for an individual quote. CHECK-IN from 4pm until any time, CHECK-OUT up to 10am, but the luggage can be stored any time. IMPORTANT ! This is a very quiet house, suitable for families or professionals and not for groups drinking and being loud or coming back in the night and disturbing the neighbours. Guest access Washing room, luggage room Other things to note Please, consider that you will have to pay a 350 Euro refundable security deposit. If you not travel for business reasons, you will have to pay city tax on arrival. Tourist License / Licencia de turismo N °: DE227512861

Mixed feelings
To be honest, we had some mixed feelings after our stay in this apartment. We = four adults and two teenagers. After my reservation I soon received a message that I had to agree with the house rules. No problem, I do understand rules are important. I however changed my mind after the fourth message with updated house rules. Really? We are tourists who want to visit Berlin, we have no intention to organise parties or the like. The procedure to get our key out of the safe turned out to be easy and straightforward. The instructions were very clear and we didn't experience any trouble. The apartment in itself was very nice: spacious, clean, comfy, with a beautiful kitchen and two separate bathrooms, located in a beautiful and classy building. Be warned though: there is no elevator in the building, so you'll have to carry your luggage up two flights of stairs. I guess the downstairs neighbour isn't that keen on the fact that the apartment is rented out to tourists. We soon got a glimpse of the neighbour who inquired how many people we were and implored us to take off our shoes in the apartment. So the whole stay we took extra care to be as quiet as possible. We didn't even dare to put on some music in the evenings. When we left, we had to turn in our keys, but we got a separate key to open a small closet in the stairwell were we could leave our luggage. The apartment in itself was very nice, but we found the menacing neighbour and all the rules to put a damper on our stay.

Spacious, Well-Located Historic Apartments
This is one apartment building, but it has splintered into four different ones on this site, apparently on for each of the four apartments. In any case, you should seriously consider staying at these apartments. It has taken us a while to collect our thoughts because they are unusual in some respects, but they cannot be considered anything but excellent. They are well located, spacious, clean, and comfortable. And the building is beautiful and historic. The apartments themselves proved to be conveniently located. For what it’s worth, they are located on the Friedrichstrasse about a half mile south of Under the Lindens, so it’s just south of the center of the major artery in Berlin you are likely visiting. The street itself at one time was THE address in Berlin. With the WWII bombings, this is one of the only, if the only, original structures left more or less intact. It is probably the most attractive building on the street for many blocks. They have a book on the building’s history (in German). As best I could make out, it had both retail and residential space before 1900 including some tie to performing magicians. As the description tells you, it is near Checkpoint Charlie. We all know what that is/was. It’s worth a walk-through for historic reasons, but the guard shack there is not the original one. There are one or two smaller museums about the wall right by – there are several such attractions around Berlin, including the DDR museum and the Wall Memorial about a mile to the north. There are many sites that may be of interest in the area, including a Trabi museum (yes, it leans towards kitsch) and the cite of Gestapo headquarters (which definitely does not). In terms of getting around Berlin, you are a 5-minute walk from the U-Bahn station, and about two stops from Under the Linden. The U-Bahn system is excellent and fast – we found it very quick and easy to get where we wanted. If you choose to walk, you will cross one of many sites of the Berlin wall and there is a shopping district about a block north of Checkpoint Charlie that goes on for several blocks. There is also a grocery store (either Lidl or Aldi) about 5 minutes from the apartment, so it’s easy to stock up. We were very happy with the location. The apartments are very large and spacious, with airy rooms and high ceilings. We found it easy to spread out and the apartments were very comfortable. They appear to be newly renovated, but in any case are in excellent condition. The bathrooms, too, are spacious and modern. We liked sliding around the floors in our socks. For the most part the apartments are quiet. They open onto an atrium, which is nice, but we did get some noise from a neighboring property having a party Saturday night. It was quiet the other nights. We liked this apartment, but as with any historic property there are some caveats, noted below. NOTE: there are actually 4 or so apartments on the site. Only one has the beautiful wooden ceilings shown in some of the photos. Be careful when you book to make sure you get what you want. We booked Apartment D, towards the back, which was still excellent in any respect, but was not the one with the ceilings. Look carefully on the site to make sure you get the apartment you want. We believe that the one with the cool ceilings is Apartment C, but you should double check. These apartments are also on the “second” floor, which in Europe means the third floor to Americans. We counted about 50 steps. It wasn’t a problem for us, but if you have mobility problems keep that in mind. The amenities were fine. The kitchen/living/dining room area is large and open. Our suite had a washer and drier, although there is a fee they charge per load. We appreciated the convenience and didn’t mind the cost. Nino, the owner, is on site. We had a small issue that he took care of immediately. These apartments have a few quirks, as noted above, but the many unique strengths (cool history, large and airy rooms, spotless condition, convenient access, etc.) make it a very good choice if you are visiting Berlin.
